The coal mine of Blegny is a former coal mine in the Liège coal basin located near Trembleur in the municipality of Blegny, northeast of the city of Liège in Belgium. It is a publicly accessible mine under supervision that is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A visit is worth it!
While exploring Washington State back roads, I came across this abandoned silver mine known as the Old Ruby (Pyrargyrite) Mine. Along with the mill there are several other buildings on the property, maintenance shop, blacksmith shop and forge, office, bunkhouse and powder magazine. The mill is empty now, and so is the powder magazine.

Botallack Mine, Cornwall UK.
The Botallack Mine is a former mine in Botallack in the west of Cornwall, UK. Since 2006 it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site – Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape. The mine is within the Aire Point to Carrick Du Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the South West Coast Path passes along the cliff.
This is one of those shots that you must get but its a short hike including what feels like a narrow ledge and it won't appeal to those who don't like heights, particularly in a strong sea breeze! I got the feeling that the narrow path will be closed sooner or later as the erosion continues.

The long exposure reminded me of an ermine stole around the Crown Mine Buildings at Botallack, hence the cryptic title.
You have to try and contemplate what life was like for those hardy Cornish Miners who braved the conditions here on the rugged Atlantic Coast. Life was tough as they tunnelled away underneath the seabed to extract the rock some 400 metres below the seabed!
As you can see the conditions were quite conducive to an LE, once I found a place where I could shelter from the gusty winds. It was unusual that the wind was actually blowing out to sea, which made the cliff edge and the narrow traverse out to this spot quite precarious. I had visions of the tripod and camera disappearing over the edge.
-The Number 9 Coal Mine was opened in 1855 by the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company. It was the World’s Longest-Operating Coal Mine. The mine featured miles of tunnels and went as far as 800 feet below the surface. It produced a significant amount of anthracite coal from the Panther Valley’s Mammoth Vein in Carbon County, PA.
In 1972, the mine was officially closed. 1992, 20 years after closing for business, the Number 9 Coal Mine was opened for tours to those wanting to learn more about this industry that built Northeastern Pennsylvania. - (Source: Uncovering PA)
