Mika is a juvenile squirrel and new to this area of the park. Let's see if he/she can prevail (Squirrels-2020-0469.jpg)
On Saturday, I rebuilt the hedgehog release fence, cleaned the hedgehog villa and built a fresh bed for the new tenant. Monday was the day - I was able to collect Mika from the shelter. Mika is probably a male, but we don't know for sure.
Mika was very shy and when asked about his sex, he/she remained stubbornly silent. He did his best to avoid answering the question by taking a closer look. Even the Plexiglas trick didn't help. I'll just write "it", that's what it's got now 😉
8:55 pm: it could get out if it wanted to
9:10 pm: it's out and it's nowhere near as jumpy as Bert last year. Neither torch nor flash bother him.
Last night I was a bit late with feeding Mika at 7.45pm and cleaning his loo. So I put his two food bowls down and fetched two sheets of toilet paper. The rat flap was already wiggling and Mika carefully pushed his cute little nose out, sniffed a little and then a little eye followed, scrutinising me. He probably categorised me as harmless and not dangerous (well, I am 😉) and came all the way out and traipsed through the dry food to the mealworms. Hedgehogs don't believe in detours 😊
I opened the rat flap and cleaned his loo - he decided it was in the porch. Oh well.
He wanted to go back in and before I could pull my hand away with the filled paper, he had already pushed it away. I think I'm accepted as an honourary hedgehog 😊
Quickly got the camera with flash and out he came again. Mika is just so cute 😊
But he keeps me on my toes - tonight he produced almost 200 clips on the two hedgehog cams 📹
