6400 ISO and 125th is difficult to process well. Add to that the 400mm lens and you get mush. This one I can post.

The plane that I was most excited to see fly at the airshow this year! A restored Mikoyan Mig-17 Fresco flying during the 2025 Abbotsford International Airshow. It was unique to see this Cold War era jet. The Mig-17 was actually the most feared fighter plane for a time. No NATO fighters were able to beat it until the F4 Phantom II entered service in the 1960s. It was still cool to see and just as intimidating as it was back in it's prime.
This MiG-17 was piloted by Randy Ball and his skills were on full display as he screamed past us mere feet from the surface of the water while the announcer excitedly proclaimed, "There he goes - and the candle is lit!"
All of these photos were taken at the Central Coast AirFest 2026 held at Santa Maria Airport, CA between 10-12 September 2026.

Russian MiG-17 jet fighter.
Developed in the 1950s as the successor to the MiG-15.
From the High Alpha Airshows website: "Saw combat in the 1960s during the Vietnam War. Although not supersonic, it was capable of very tight turns and armed with three cannons, making it deadly against American fighters like the F-4 Phantom and the F-8 Crusader. The MiG-17 was the first Russian fighter jet to have an afterburner, which dumps raw fuel in to the exhaust to increase the thrust."
Photographed at 236mm with my new 100-400mm full frame telephoto lens for the Canon EOS-R. Shutter priority at 1/25000 sec. ISO-800, f/8. Single image HDR processed in Photomatix and Photoshop 2022.

Catching a classic Cold War jet in its element is always a thrill, but seeing the afterburner light up takes it to another level! This is a Polish-built version of the iconic Soviet jet fighter, officially known as a PZL-Mielec Lim-5.
These early jets were famously loud, particularly when the afterburner was lit. The red-and-white checkerboard on the tail is the distinctive national marking of Polish military aircraft. Seeing this vintage bird still tearing through the skies is a testament to the skill of the mechanics who keep aviation history alive.
