A very exhilarating experience to raise this Monarch from an egg to an adult and then see her fly away. Please plant milkweed if you can to keep the Monarch population up. It is the host plant for the Monarch and without milkweed, the larva would not be able to develop into a butterfly.

We had a few glorious sunrises and sunsets during the second week I was in Norfolk. This wee barn, amongst the stubble, was on my doorstep so it was rude not to revisit a few times. The stormy skies rolled in in the evening just as the sun was setting. It was like a scene from the US when I went storm chasing a few years ago.

While out exploring a bit of Cincinnati's fringes, I happened by the office's of Midwest Textiles. I knocked, but no one answered.

Sunflowers create a wonderful foreground in this early morning summer sunrise!

A day of winter in the middle of spring. All the lovely spring flowers, including these miniature iris, were buried under several inches of snow today.

As the sun pokes over the horizon the tractor trails in a browning wheat-field become very noticeable. The low sunlight creates shadows in the depressions giving this image a great depth of field.

A freshly cut field and a great big sky seems like the perfect Midwest landscape

The Spring Green Preserve is known as the ‘Wisconsin Desert’ due to its sandy soil, dry grasses, lizards, and prickly pear cacti. We were definitely reminded of the high desert when hiking through it!

Evening wandering. It rained all day and once it cleared up later on, the sky and light were fun to observe

With a glimpse of sunlight during mostly cloudy skies, M513-05 charges through Trenton. With BNSF 719 doing the honors, BNSF 719 wears the “Fakebonnet” paint scheme. The fakebonnet paint scheme replicates the classic Sante Fe warbonnet scheme, with the only difference being the BNSF patch on the sides of the locomotive.

Midwest Transload is on the site of the old Captain Mine. The loadout was right before the locomotives, by that old signal.

Midwest Transload is served by Union Pacific out of Chester and Canadian National out of Centralia.

This about sums it up.

With only 29 SD80MACs on the roster, catching one leading is always a treat. I'm a bit spoiled; these maintenance queens tend to spend most of their time close to the shops in Pennsylvania so I've caught my fair share over the years. I had to stop and look when I caught one in Indiana, seen here hauling auto racks west out of automobile country.

With a pair of CP AC4400's up front, CPKC's hotshot "Midwest Mexico Express" rolls through Chaney Jct in central Houston. At Chaney, the two mains of the Houston Sub split into the Freight Main and the Passenger Main, with the latter running through the Houston Amtrak Station. This train is hopping onto the Freight Main, which is necessary to reach the Maury St connector in the NW quadrant of the Tower 26 interlocking ahead.
