This was in a CE lab at Kettering that deals with microcontroller design.

The veroboard layout and cut-plans for my variant of the Mk III TV-B-Gone. R2 and R5 are 1k ohm resistors, R3 is a 10k ohm resistor, Q1 and Q2 are BC548s, Q5 is a BC558, XTL1 is an 8MHz ceramic resonator, LED1 and 2 are 5mm, 940nm IR LEDs, and LED5 is a 3mm red LED.

Arduino, Freeduino, Boarduino.

Building a microcontroller from scratch.

Repurposed PS controllers as electronic instruments.

Testing the AVR ATmega1284P program that generates composite video, by connecting it to the living room TV. It's a Sony widescreen set with video-in on the front. I've set it up to stretch the greyscale image to fill the screen.

Sanguino is an open source Arduino-compatible microcontroller board that is based on the Arduino, and inspired by the Boarduino form-factor. It uses the atmega644P chip which has 4x the memory, ram and 12 more GPIO pins than the Arduino's atmega168.

Microchip Technology's 44-pin PIC18F46K80 Plug-In Module (part # MA180031, $25).

One of the little projects I did on the first night I had my hands on an Arduino microcontroller. This just turned on the 7-segment LED and cycled through the numbers 0-9.

The odd thing was that the code compiled to be 20% smaller than the "hello world" "Blink" example for the Arduino—apparently a side-effect of the fact that I controlled the LEDs with PORTD and PORTB operations rather than using the digitalWrite() function.

A video of a later version of this project, with an added potentiometer and an expanded digit range to hexadecimal is on YouTube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBa-nsWQ8A8

The veroboard layout and cut-plans for an Atmel ATtiny2313 carrier. R1 is a10k ohm resistor, C1 and C2 are 22pF ceramics, XTL1 is an 8MHz crystal, and S1 is a four-pin, SPST PCB-mount momentary action push button. Red dots indicate wires that route power, clock and programming signals to specific pins of the microcontroller; x's indicate cuts. (See decarchive.org/~prd/2009/10/breadboard-compatible-carrier... for more details.)

Dropping marble into glass of milky water. First results - This is really just a late night proof of concept. Work in progress. Inspired by availability of laser, a recently emptied wine glass and need to create something after a long day.

This is part of the schematic of my MIDI piano instructor. This thing drives a bar of LEDs placed on top of a piano keyboard (electronic or regular). MIDI messages play a MIDI melody through the electronic piano or a MIDI box and also drive the MIDI piano instructor which turns on and off the LEDs according to the notes played.

The chipKIT™ Cmod is a chipKIT/MPIDE compatible board from Digilent. It combines a Microchip® PIC32MX150F128D microcontroller with a convenient 600-mil, 40-pin DIP package and two Digilent Pmod connectors. Digilent's Cmod boards are ideally suited for breadboards or other prototype circuit designs where the use of small surface mount packages is impractical.

The chipKIT Cmod takes advantage of the powerful PIC32MX150F128D microcontroller. This microcontroller features a 32-bit MIPS processor core running at 40 MHz, 128K of flash memory, and 32K of SRAM data memory.
