The weather was gorgeous today so when my friend, Jae, asked if I wanted to go and find a couple of geocaches I said "yes". We found one at this really cool and rather new (July 2017) art installation by Porirua Harbour. It's part of the Writers' Walk, I think it is the only sculpture here so far (installed in July 2017). This is the Michael King commemorative sculpture. Information on a sign next to it says
Michael King
1945-2004
Michael King was born in Wellington, and grew up in Paremata. Journalist, academic, writer, and dubbed ‘the people's historian’. Nationally and internationally acclaimed but loved by Porirua for his portrayal of the beauty of the local scenery in his poetry and prose.
The view from the large window-shaped Michael King commemorative sculpture on Wineera Drive, Porirua, takes in the landscapes mentioned in this engraved text:
The writing inside says
“Waking each morning with the bedroom windows open and the smell of flowers and fruit, or rain on earth, from the garden outside. Getting up before dawn and making my way barefoot through the macrocarpas and pines to the beach. There I would collect oars, rowlocks and fishing gear from the shed and walk the short distance across the sand and shells to the water.
By now the sun would be lighting the crests of the hills around the harbour, and they seemed to hang in the still air. I would wade out to the anchored dinghy, peering ahead as mullet scattered in front of me and flounders kicked up mushrooms of sand.
Once in the boat and moving I loved the dip of the oars, the creak of the rowlocks and the whisper of water along the sides. The sun would be coming up as I slipped past the bleached shellbank we called Cockleshell Island. In the channel where the water ran green and deep opposite Moorhouse Point, I tossed the anchor over the side and waited for it to grip”.

For 365/2018 - A New Focus
For 2018: one photo each day.
For 118 Pictures in 2018: #53 - Art for Art's Sake.
Explored! #81 on 1st January 2018.
Warm one minute, windy the next.
Mike and I were walking around Melbourne, just looking. We made our way up Flinders Lane just in time to see this gust of wind and this lady cross paths. It was fast and I guess Mike and I were the only two who saw this happen. You can see his version on his stream.
Autumn indeed. About time.
A big window, a humble remote flash and one very beautiful girl on her most special day makes for a truly angelic bride.
At the wedding of Briony and Tim that Michael and I covered.
Congratulations to the newly weds.
Literally and figuratively. Well, I did not know what Helen was doing until I saw the photos on the computer. In this image I was just sitting in trying to direct the guy who was supposed to be in the shot. In doing so I inadvertently became the shot.
In the image is Misa, me and Helen, in the distance at the back is Helen's dad.

Congratulations to the very sweet newly-weds.
At the Brighton Savoy and part of the photo coverage which Michael and myself provided.

There has been a conspicuous absence of posts from me lately. Mainly due to a heavy work load and this: Michael and I covered Karen and Johnny's wedding last Saturday. And it certainly was a big day of shooting. I am still dreading going through all the photos.
Here is an early release. Taken at Parliament House, Spring Street, Melbourne.
Big cheers to the newly weds and many thanks for their graciousness and joy.

I wish I could say that this image was not posed. Alas, it was all art directed—bar the kittenish glance from the bride's maid on the left.

But it really doesn't matter / If the skies are grey / 'Long as I can be with you / It's a lovely day. -Lyrics from the song Isn't It a Lovely Day by Irving Berlin. In my head it is Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald singing a duet.
Mike and I went shooting around again. This time we stood in Federation Square intentionally waiting for the forecast rain.
There were many people there: some watching a live show; some in open air restaurants; some just wandering about; all typical of the place. So we knew it would be a fun scene when it would eventually bucket down.
And it certainly was. It was wonderful to see people running from the rain, congregating under big umbrellas and laughing. People were actually having fun. The crowd, before so separate and private, was one. A young lady next to me commented that it reminded her of her childhood when she used to play in the rain. Add to that, I think people were just happy that it was raining in Melbourne.
And so it was a lovely day.

Michael and I covered a wedding this afternoon. It was a fun shoot. We were not the main photographers so we had the chance to play about and shoot more in the reportage style, leaving photographer numero uno to deal with the traditional images.
To the couple Joy and Andreas, congratulations.

St Margaret's is another of Norwich's now redundant parish churches (hardly surprising, there are three more close by in the same street!). It dates from the 14th/15th centuries and is a relatively compact building consisting of west tower, nave and chancel with south aisle and chapel.
Little remains of it's furnishings beyond some memorials in the south chapel and the stained glass, surprisingly modern, installed only a decade before the church's closure; there is a single figure of St Margaret overcoming the dragon in the south chapel, but the major piece here is the dynamic composition by Michael King in the main east window, a strikingly stylised (almost semi abstract) Ascension from 1967.
The church is currently used for temporary exhibitions and thus can be visited whenever there's work on show.
