Watson's Mill is located in Manotick situated on the banks of the Rideau River, south of Ottawa. It was built by Moss Kent Dickinson and business partner, Joseph Currier, in 1860.
The mill is still producing flour with the restored millstones and accessory machinery to the original 1860 operating condition. The original turbines still provide power to drive the millstones up to 120 revolutions per minute.

Le moulin produit toujours de la farine avec les meules restaurées et les machines à l'état de fonctionnement original de 1860. Les turbines d'origine fournissent toujours la puissance nécessaire pour entraîner les meules jusqu'à 120 tours par minute.

Cap-aux-Meules Island has three villages (Fatima, Cap-aux-Meules and L'Étang-du-Nord), it is more "urbanized" than the other islands and is the service and administrative centre for the archipelago. The name, Cap-aux-Meules (Grindstone Cape), comes from the presence of grindstone in the hill overlooking the port.
Hiking in Cap-Aux-Meules for a day along the coastline trail, the wind along beaches and capes and leads to an observation deck overlooking the port of Cap-aux-Meules. I was almost carried away by the gentle sea breeze in this magnificent open-air playground! The wind is omnipresent in the Magdalen Islands. Strong sea breezes have always been a part of the lives of their inhabitants. The sea breeze makes the archipelago the ideal place to enjoy wind sports and activities, like acrobatic kite flying and kitesurfing...
Fatima Exposed to northerly winds, the Fatima coastline is lined with spectacularly steep, jagged cliffs. Unfortunately, year after year, the coast is retreating as a result of erosion.

Les moulins à eau étaient utilisés pour de multiples usages avant l'ère industrielle, comme :
moudre des céréales, l'usage le plus ancien ;
dans l'industrie forestière, les scieries ;
pour le textile : foulons, métiers à tisser ;
pour le travail des métaux : meules, forges, marteaux pilons ;
pour actionner des pompes.
moulin à papier : du 13è au 18°è siècle, l'énergie du moulin servait à réduire les chiffons détrempés en pâte à papier en actionnant des pilons munis de pointes. Au 19è siècle, elle actionne en outre la machine à papier en continu. Mais le terme moulin est alors abandonné au profit du terme papeterie.
Before the industrial era, water mills were used for a wide range of purposes, including :
grinding cereals, the oldest use ;
in the forestry industry, sawmills, etc;
in the textile industry: fulling mills, weaving looms;
metalworking: millstones, forges, drop hammers;
to drive pumps.
Paper mill: from the 13th to the 18th century, the mill's energy was used to reduce soaked rags to paper pulp by driving pestles fitted with spikes. In the 19th century, it was also used to power the continuous paper machine, but the term ‘mill’ was abandoned in favour of ‘paper mill’.
