A high quality tool from Germany, probably by Genko.

The mechanism is smooth and solid, this is one of better standard hand drills. Its pretty typical of German hand power drills in its looks and build, sharing many design features with Metabo models such as the Metabo 129, though this drill better quality than that example.

A variety of makers is represented in this mechanic's tool kit. The only items from the DDR are a 1/2 inch socket driver bar by Kampmann, Schmalkalden (3rd from top on left) and to the right of it a 26mm six point Smalcalda socket. All other items except one are from west German companies: Gedore/Carolus, Rahsol, Elora, VBW, Rheidco, Metabo-Rheidco, Stahlwille, ISI. The exception is a 1/2 inch drive hex bit holder by Gordon Tools, Sheffield, England.

Answer: Why not combine some into a huge array of chargers?

MacSimski's idea was to use a couple of filler metal welding rods and to solder the adapters onto that base. The rods can be used as a mains plug.

The result is the "Hack42 FestivalCharger": a 5v 10A powerbar which can simultaneously supply up to 33 devices with power (unless it trips the 16A breaker).

The welding rods are shielded with a PVC tube, which is capped with polymorph (protoplast).

The tube is further secured to the rods with a few sticks of hot glue, liberally applied in a few strategic locations.

The 5 metric sockets were made by Kampmann in Schmalkalden, Thuringia in the 1960s. The 1/2 inch ratchet drive is currently made by Gedore in Remscheid and has a composite plastic handle. The extension bar is by Metabo-Rheidco from Remscheid. The restored metal box is from VBW in Remscheid and originally contained a set of A/F sockets and a small driving bar. VBW was at that time an independent firm, the Vereinigte Berkersche Werkzeugfabriken, making a variety of hand tools. It is still based in Remscheid, but is now part of the Stahlwille group of companies and its product range comprises mainly pliers.
