This Merida cosplay was one of my favorites at SDCC this year.

First Edition Disney Store Merida with the famous "green nose" problem. I bought her nude and second hand.

Her nose, the ears, hands, feet, knees and chin were green (production fail), and her hair was a bit frizzy. Result after 2 weeks work :)

Photos by my parents.

Merida's Cathedral of San Ildefonso is the second oldest in Mexico, having been constructed in 1561, many of its stones coming from the ancient Mayan temples of the city that were destroyed by the colonial regime.

It is a large and somewhat austere building with a fortress-like façade and a barrel-vaulted interior with elaborately coffered ceilings. The cathedral was sacked during the Mexican Revolution in 1915 under the orders of a socialist general resulting in the total loss of the original decoration and furnishings. The replacement furnishings are quite simple though the massive crucifix that has become the new focal point of the interior is most impressive.

The cathedral was closed when we first explored the city centre in the late afternoon but open again when we returned in the evening.
