Shops in a street underpass. I wonder how they survive even though people are forced to use the underpass as deliberately there are no traffic lights on the street above.
General Merchandise, Circa 1880.At Bayou Paul Road is the rustic M. Barthel Store, although locals call it the J. A. Barthel Store. The swayback plank porch leads to a dim interior captured for its atmosphere in numerous commercials and films. Although the store no longer stocks general merchandise-buckets, boots, moss, and such-the straightforward display of foodstuffs and sundries on unadorned shelving preserves the flavor of a River Road general store where the proprietor greets everyone by name and business is still done the old-fashioned way.

The Grant of Terrasson
A true local customs system, the appropriation was a particularly important structure for municipal revenues. It was used in particular to finance the maintenance of fortifications and public utility works.
The term "grant" comes from the verb grant which means to grant: the city grants the entry of goods in exchange for a tax. These taxes, always poorly accepted, were definitively abolished at the end of the Second World War. This granting office subsequently served as the municipality's official balance sheet. It allowed breeders and farmers to weigh and formalize the weight of their merchandise before sale.
Located near the old bridge, the premises and its weighing equipment were recently brought up to date.

Chicago, on the river
Fun fact - when opened in 1930, this was the largest building in the word in terms of floor space.
I stumbled upon an illustration I created well over seven years ago. This concept was one of many presented to a local radio station.

"Delicate merchandise!
The harbors are big with it-
bazaars
for the light and the
barbarous gold.
We open
the halves

creation's

i really find the ability of vendors to balance merchandises on their heads quite remarkable. it is an efficient method for carrying loads as it leaves both hands free for other uses. this practice dates back to antiquity
