Growing up in the early 60s I have a vivid memory of a palace perched on top of a hill which rises out of the blue Mediterranean Sea. This is the Palace at Vouni, dating from about 500BC and it has been my introduction to my heritage. At the time to me this was what all ancient places must have been like.
I was no more that 10 or 12 when I last visited this magical place. Soon after that with my family we left Cyprus and a few years later Turkey invaded and captured this area and much more. For many years after that I was forbidden by a foreign army from returning and when finally sanctions were eased, I was reluctant to go back. I preferred to see it in my mind than under this foreign occupation.
After years of deliberation and with great reservations, I convinced myself to make the journey during my last trip home. It was such an emotional day and surprisingly I found that I could remember the whole mountain scene as if it was only yesterday when I was last there. Dare I draw parallels that this was my own Ithaca and now that I have seen it one more time it's as if a heavy weight has been lifted from my chest.
I am sorry if I have bored you, this is a partial view from the Palace at Vouni.
Take me to the past
to that weathered house on the beach

allowed to play in the salty sea
Not a care in the world
No depression or anxiety
Just a vast blue sky
and the sand beneath my feet
Let me dive into memories' flowing sea
A time when life could still buzz and sing

Having risen at six each morning this week, in the hope of getting out for a sunrise and seeing total clear skies. It was no surprise that this mornings sunrise would be spectacular, as Ken had gone back to work. I've named this one memories but hope I can create a few more sometime soon :)
