This melodic crooner posed briefly for a portrait before flying off to join others actively foraging on the ground.

This melodic warbler is widely distributed across Britain & Ireland through the breeding season, and increasingly in winter too.
Blackcap breeding numbers have steadily increased in the UK since the late-1970s, and have also expanded their breeding range throughout northern Scotland and the island of Ireland during this time. They are now absent only on the highest Scottish peaks and farthest flung islands. In autumn, these breeding birds depart for southern Europe and are replaced by Blackcaps from central Europe. BTO research has helped show how garden bird feeding led to the evolution of this new migratory route and wintering strategy. Although widespread in winter, Blackcaps tend to be absent from the uplands at this time of year.
Blackcaps have a greyish overall appearance. The eponymous black cap is only found in the males; females and juveniles have a brown cap instead. The song is very similar to that of the Garden Warbler, but can be distinguished with practice. Blackcaps are found in parks, deciduous woodland and scrub, as well as at garden feeding stations.

The fading mist waved over the lands and the short shore of the lake.
The still upcoming sun, with its warm and caressing breams, forcing it to dissolve, while the little girl threw her stones, seeing them disappear in the ice-cold water.
Her melodic laughter followed the sound of 'plop', when the mirror of the lake were broken from the weight of her new toys, leaving waving circles to disolve in the distance.
She would turn and her deep brown eyes, would express how she couldn't wait till he would be there with them again, then throw another stone, just for him.

Hunky Dory is the fourth studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 17 December 1971.
Compared to the guitar-driven hard rock sound of The Man Who Sold the World, Bowie opted for a warmer, more melodic piano-based pop rock and art pop style on Hunky Dory. His lyrical concerns on the record range from the compulsive nature of artistic reinvention on "Changes", to occultism and Nietzschean philosophy on "Oh! You Pretty Things" and "Quicksand"; several songs make cultural and literary references. He was also inspired by his stateside tour to write songs dedicated to three American icons: Andy Warhol, Bob Dylan and Lou Reed. The song "Kooks" was dedicated to Bowie's newborn son Duncan. The album's cover artwork, photographed in monochrome and subsequently recoloured, features Bowie in a pose inspired by actresses of the Hollywood Golden Age.
Upon release, Hunky Dory and its lead single "Changes" received little promotion from RCA who were wary that Bowie would transform his image shortly. Thus, despite very positive reviews from the British and American music press, the album initially sold poorly and failed to chart. It was only after the commercial breakthrough of Bowie's 1972 follow-up album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars that Hunky Dory itself became a commercial success, peaking at number three on the UK Albums Chart. Retrospectively, Hunky Dory has been critically acclaimed as one of Bowie's best works, and features on several lists of the greatest albums of all time. Within the context of his career, it is considered to be the album where "Bowie starts to become Bowie", definitively discovering his voice and style.
"Life on Mars?" is described by Buckley as a "soaring, cinematic ballad". Although Bowie was fixated on becoming Ziggy Stardust at the time of its recording, the song has no connection to Mars itself; the title was a reference to the recent media frenzy of the US and Soviet Union racing to get to the red planet. The song is a parody of singer Frank Sinatra's "My Way" and uses the same chord sequence for its opening bars. (from Wikipedia)

Happy 50th anniversary, Hunky Dory!
This remarkable flycatcher occurs in both rufous and white morphs, but it always has grayish underparts and a strong crest. The breeding male has ludicrous central tail feathers, twenty centimeters long, that trail like the ribbon of a rhythmic gymnast, while the female lacks the tail streamers and has a smaller crest. Singles and pairs occasionally join flocks in open woodland, riverine forest, and thickets, avoiding lowland evergreen forest. Very vocal, often giving a repeated grating “dzee-zwee” call and a sweet melodic “willie-willie-willie-wee-wooo” song. The very similar Rufous-vented Paradise-Flycatcher differs from African Paradise-Flycatcher by having a rufous undertail and a shorter crest. (eBird)

A beautiful flycatcher that we saw just the one time on our trip. Unfortunately, this male did not have his long tail, but I was still pleased to see him, We had seen this species in Ghana but no photos so I was very happy to get a photo lifer of the paradise-flycatcher.

One of the most common and widespread sparrows in North America. Fairly large with a long, rounded tail. Overall coarsely patterned with gray and brown, usually with more reddish-brown wings and tail. Look especially for thick brown streaks on the underparts and a broad dark mustache stripe. Significant variation in plumage geographically: relatively pale and rusty in the southwestern U.S.; blacker streaking in California; overall dusky in the Pacific Northwest. Larger, longer-tailed and usually more rusty than Savannah Sparrow. Found in a variety of scrubby habitats both near and far from human development, especially edges of fields, often near water. Listen for husky "chimp" calls and melodic song with chips and trills. (eBird)

The Bewick's Wren is primarily found across the western United States, extending from southern Canada to northern Mexico. It thrives in riparian zones, woodlands, dense brush, and my backyard. Its diet consists mainly of insects, including beetles, spiders, and ants, as well as fruits and seeds. Renowned for its remarkable mimicry, the Bewick’s Wren often incorporates the calls and songs of other species into its vibrant melodic repertoire.

In Japan, in late March and early April, they celebrate the Sakura matsuri, or cherry blossom festival.
All eyes will be on the light pink florets as they fill the city sidewalks, public parks, and temple gardens with quivering bursts of color in the gentle breeze of early spring. Picnicking under the blossoms is an ancient tradition. Then, all too soon, the petals begin to fall, and the scene becomes a distant memory.
One explanation of Bashô’s haiku is that he is recalling that he abandoned the way of samurai and decided to live the way of haiku. Or simply that cherry blossoms encourage random thoughts.
The sibilant repetition of the “s” and “z” sounds (samazama, omoidasu, sakura). The repeated consonants of “k” (koto, sakura, kana) produce a melodic sound to Bashô’s phrase.
“Do you remember many things?” is today’s colloquial understanding of the phrase.
A more literal translation is, “Various things, they call to mind, ah, cherry blossoms !”
We're still unable to go far from home these days due to ongoing pandemic restrictions but with a few days of warm weather, we did some driveway camping to "get away from it all" - sort of! It was nice, actually, and so was waking up to the cacophony of bird song that starts just before dawn. This yellow warbler had a gentle melodic voice - compared to a nesting pair of robins that seem to SHOUT out their good morning song.
I wasn't there. But he was there, a brilliant multiplicity of artistic expression, far ahead of his time. A phenomenon that challenged the government, human existence, the sameness, became an icon of social movements. Always overcoming limits. BTW, who is that man ?
It was difficult to understand the meaning of his acid poetry, with sharpened voice in melodic form, his antagonistic stance towards the mediocre questions spewed out by the suffocating press.
He questioned war, government corruption, selfish attitudes that have been repeated since long time, so his complex and powerful lyrics and melodies will continue to make sense. But we will continue without understanding most of what he thought. Well, I do not understand a lot of things here. And you, do you, Mister Jones?

The combination of a red bill, yellow-green eye-ring, and brown (not black) undertail are characteristic of this firefinch. The male has a pink face, crown, and underparts, while the female is mostly brown with a small pink patch between the eye and bill and a pink upper tail. Pairs and small flocks are resident in a variety of grassy savanna habitats and in cultivation, where they feed on the ground for seeds and fly into trees when disturbed. The species may join mixed-species flocks and often drinks or bathes. It gives a melodic “swee-tee-eeer” song and a spitting, tinny “prrrrrt” call. The Bar-breasted Firefinch is very similar to the Red-billed Firefinch, but has a brown (not reddish) crown; the Brown Firefinch has a brown rump.

I really enjoyed this band's melodic and engaging indie rock Saturday night at The Empty Bottle. They had a lot of stories about talking to border guards about their band to cross...what do you sound like? The Beatles! Well, not exactly but I think they could pull off some covers if they wanted to. Kiwi Jr. had Dan Boeckner (Handsome Furs and Wolf Parade) produce their most recent album Chopper.

A majestic deer stands beneath an old stone bridge, its antlers sprawling like twisted tree branches—ancient, gnarled, and alive with quiet magic. Shafts of dappled sunlight filter through the slats above, catching in the intricate tangle of horn and casting delicate shadows on its sleek, tawny coat.
At its hooves, a sparkling stream winds gently past, its crystal-clear waters catching the light like a ribbon of stars. The stream dances over smooth stones and weaves its way toward a breathtaking turquoise lake, so vividly blue it seems unreal—like a piece of sky captured in the earth.
Around the water’s edge, wildflowers bloom in a riot of color—bright golds, deep violets, scarlet reds, and snowy whites. They sway gently in the breeze, nodding toward the water as if in reverence. Often first detected by its song: a melodic series of “kua kua kua kua” notes, similar to Surucua Trogon, but faster. Perches quietly in an upright position for long periods. Males have a green back, a bluish head and breast, a yellow belly. The underside of the tail is white with dark centers. Females have a gray-brown head and breast. Their tail is similar to the male’s but also has gray horizontal bars. Found in the upper to middle levels of humid forests, at forest edges, and in lighter woodlands and second growth. (eBird)
