Seriously, most children, mine included, would like nothing better than hugging fluffy Jae Jae.
I have to remind them he is indeed a Sumatran tiger, conditioned from birth to look at apes, especially tiny apes, as preys, which he’s learned to tear apart from 5 metres away in less than 5 seconds.
… So Jae Jae jetted off to France just the day after I shot his portrait last week. I'll probably visit him later this year in Parc des Félins near Paris. And in moved young Asim from Denmark. I caught him shortly after his arrival, already marking his new territory with gusto and happily chuffing at Melati, who had chastely retired to a separate enclosure, although she seemed quite interested in her new would-be suitor. Seems like Jae Jae is old news already :-) Asim, just like Jae Jae and Melati, is a very much endangered Sumatran tiger (panthera tigris sumatrae).
A very sad day!
London Zoo's beloved 10 year old female Sumatran tiger Melati was brutally mauled to death by her potential new mate while the two beasts were being introduced on Friday.

Sumatran Tiger at the London Zoo
This is Asim, a male tiger brought from the Danish Zoo in the hope that he would be the perfect mate for long-term London Zoo resident Melati. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be. Melati was killed by Asim.
Photo was taken 10 days after the incident.

… Devastating news … this is the last picture I’ll ever publish of Melati, and she’ll remain Jae Jae’s girl forever. From what I could gather, shortly after she was introduced to Asim yesterday, She attacked him and Asim had killed her in the resulting fight before their keepers could do anything. RIP.

Vanwege een persoon aanrijding tussen Oisterwijk en Boxtel was het een paar uur gene vette aan de lijn ,in Oisterwijk met de vingers zitten draaien,dan maar naar Hulten waar het spel met de wolken al snel begon dan maar via Bunga Melati (maand menu ) naar huis met op treinen gebied een magere buit,MAAR goed gegeten (thuis).
