This "irresistible" Scaly-breasted Munia was seen along the Meadowbrook at the Los Angeles County Arboretum
I looked for the 'new Al' near the entrance at LA Arb but he was not as cooperative as his predecessor. Here's a lady Al at Meadowbrook.
A friend of mine spotted this car out at an abandoned farmstead yesterday while out for a drive. He contacted the farmer and received permission for us to try and photograph it with the night sky. I didn't get out there until dusk, so I didn't get a real good look at the car. It is a Dodge Meadowbrook, but I don't know what year. Dodge produced the Meadowbrook from 1949 through 1954, but I don't know how different the model years were or how to tell the model years apart.
I started taking shots before the sky was dark enough to see the Milky Way. By the time the Milky Way became visible, it was too dark to get much more than a silhouette of the car. So, I cheated and composited an early shot of the car with a shot of the sky from an hour later.
The car was photographed at dusk at 1000 ISO , f/2.8, 3.2 seconds. The sky shot was at 1,600 ISO, f/2.8 for 15 seconds.
L.A. Arboretum:
Yesterday at Meadowbrook Lou called me over to see something. He points to a wet bird on the ground and says he thinks it's a Green-tailed Towhee, which is rare for the Arb.
We both photograph it and later confirm it is indeed a Green-tailed Towhee.
We went back today but didn't see him. It would be nice if he stayed around for a while to give others a chance to photograph it. Fingers crossed!
This Scaly-breasted Munia gave me a quick look and then headed off to the upper reaches of a nearby tree - with the rest of his friends ! I guess I got a little too close but don't worry they soon returned !! The plentiful seeds along the Meadowbrook at the Los Angeles County Arboretum made certain of that !
I just cannot get enough photos of this beautiful exotic bird.
This one was in the Cotoneaster shrub along "Meadowbrook"

The entrance to Meadow Brook Cemetery in Leighton, Crewe. I walk past this everyday on my journey to work and to watch these stunning Acers change colour is amazing. It's not the best shot as I was a little rushed due to the security guy turning up to lock the gates. Apologies for the HDR but it looks so flat otherwise.
