Moscow, Camden & San Augustine (MC&SA) SW1200 #1 arrives in Moscow, TX on a rainy Friday with two cars for the UP interchange. First time I've seen action here in the twelve years I've been driving past this small burg, and only had to wait about five minutes after arriving on scene - rainy day luck of course. The crew will drop these cars off, pull two from the interchange, cut one out, then run light back to Camden. Note the Stihl chainsaw under the cab step.

Get your shots of these units now. MC&SA SW900 #3 has already been sidelined with a faulty water pump and will apparently be scrapped. A new switcher has been ordered to take the lead for all operations (I'm guessing a SW1500 or MP15) and the 1-spot will be used as backup.

...still operating under it's original charter, Moscow, Camden & San Augustine SW1200 #1 retrieves two cars from the UP interchange at Moscow after dropping off two.

Rain was doing nothing to improve this crewmember's outlook on life, but being as this was my first time ever seeing MC&SA doing something other than not moving, I was not affected by the downpour. Even with the weather, these guys were actually pretty friendly and stopped to chat for a bit after the hogger departed light for Camden.

The MCSA is a 7-mile short line connecting Camden to Moscow, where interchange is made with the Union Pacific. The railroad is located in the Piney Woods of East Texas. No. 1 was built in February 1954 as T&NO (SP) 118, and still operates after 68 years of service. Photo by Joe McMillan.

MCSA #1, an EMD SW1200 originally built as T&NO 118 in February 1954, sits at the mill waiting for its next assignment on the Moscow Camden & San Augustine Railroad. The MCSA is one of Texas' shortest short line railroads, chartered in 1898, with only 7 miles of track between Moscow, Texas and Camden, Texas.

MC&SA SW-9 #3 undergoes some repairs outside the company shops at Camden, TX on a warm summer morning while I catch up on some light reading.

The morning MC&SA local to nearby Moscow has already departed with SW1200 #1 and by the time we reach the site of the railroad's interchange with UP, it has already tied down to await the arrival of the connecting UP local...a wait that would extend well into the afternoon, longer than we could afford to hang around.

Out for engine runs is this ex- Air Greenland Sikorsky S-61. It was imported by Heli-Maxx in 2021 as OY-HAG, then trucked here in 2022 and sat outside for many months. In February 2023 it was Canadian registered and its overhaul began. Behind is sister ship OY-HAF and beside that, in plastic, is an S-92 recently imported and believed to be ex Petroleum Helicopters. Another wrapped S-92 arrived at the same time and was hangared straight away. It is believed to be ex UK and possibly G-MCSA. Time will tell.

MCSA was and still is essentially an industrial railroad connecting a mill at Camden with the Class 1 railroad mainline, today Union Pacific, at Moscow, Texas. The railroad still exists today, not sure about the locomotive.

Unwinding for the evening in the MCSA hut on Table Mountain. Climbed up Kasteelspoort in heavy mist so were glad to get dry. The wine and the hip flask of Jura disappeared pretty quickly!
