A completely new view, for a long time on my wishlist, and this day I finally got there. Clouds and sun were playing games, but I was able to make some nice sunny shots with the town of Sankt-Goarshausen in the background. This spot can easily be reached on foot. Just beware when parking the car during tourist season: the parkings at the Loreley site will be very busy.
Burg Katz in the background was built in 1393 and is now privately owned. It's name relates to burg Maus, in Wellmich, that can be seen on this picture www.flickr.com/photos/65238008@N03/7297555396/in/album-72....

Das Wochenende vom 04.09-05-09. führte mich in das hessische Ausland.
Geplant war ein bissle das Rheintal sich anzuschauen, und auch das ein oder andere Bild eines Zuges in der wunderschönen Region des Rheins zu schießen.
Problem war nur der Bahnstreik.
Der komplette Fernverkehr fiel aus und daher war ein Teil der Züge schonmal nicht anzutreffen.
Güterverkehrsmäßig sah es auch ein bissle mau aus.
Also den Kurzurlaub Abbrechen?
Das war keine Option!
Also, lieber Niederbrechen an der Main-Lahn-Bahn unsicher machen!
Ich hatte mal gehört, dass dort 143er zumindest gefahren sind.
Wer weiß, vielleicht fahren sie ja immernoch?
Ins Blaue (oder wohl eher Rote ;-)) rein begab ich mich an die besagte Kbs. 627.
Ohne zu wissen, ob eine 143 an den sonntags im 2-Stunden-Takt verkehrenden DB-RBs hängt stellte ich mich für den gezogenen 10 Uhr Zug auf die Wiese zwischen Nieder-/ und Oberbrechen.
Und siehe da!
Es kam eine 143 im wunderbaren Lack um die Ecke geschossen!
Meine Motivation für den Tag war gesichert!
Da eine Stunde zwischen der Hin und Rückfahrt war, suchte ich für den geschobenen Zug nach Limburg eine andere Version der klassischen Wiese.
Fündig wurde ich auf der anderen Seite des Emsbaches.
Um 11.37 Uhr schob schließlich 143 803 ihre RB15254 von Niedernhausen nach Limburg in den Bahnhof von Niederbrechen rein.
An diesem Tag pendelte nur eine Garnitur zwischen Limburg und Niedernhausen.
Wohl durch die kurze Wendezeit in Niedernhausen blieb auch bei der geschobenen Fahrt nach Limburg der Stromabnehmer "hinten" oben und ein Nachschuss fiel kaum auf.

Maus Castle, which is actually called Thurnberg, was occasionally the favourite residence of the electors of Trier. Archbishop Balduin built the castle between 1353-1388 for the protection of his newly acquired territory. It was one of the most modern and technically most interesting constructions of its time. In around 1370 the counts of Katzenelnbogen built the mighty stronghold Neu-Katzenelnbogen on the adjoining mountain.
Among the local people, the impression arose that the castles spied on themselves like cat and mouse. So both bastions got their nicknames, under which they are known until today. Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. :-)

I took a lot of photos today on my lunch hour – pleasurably spent at Fort Collins’ Global Village Museum. I went there for We’re Here! where we are visiting the group History is All Around Us.
I chose this object for the theme because these “Tiki Poles” were a way of recording history in Oceania. Historically, these poles often would indicate family or tribe membership. Placed at the boundary lines of tribal grounds, the Tiki poles often marked where one territory began and another ended. They usually contained information about family or tribal history carved in the shapes.

According to the museum’s information, this particular example is from Belona Island, in the Solomon Islands, and is a fairly recent creation. Mau Tiki-Tiki is the iconic fisher-bird of the South Pacific. According to legend, during a fishing expedition Mau Tiki-Tiki managed to pull up the entire island of Belona from the sea.
