You know the song came to my mind instantly when I saw the name on the back of this boat, probably dating myself a few years but that song brings back a lot of memories. As part of a ramble with Kay (mathteacher) Margaret (Reed Photo) on Saturday we cruised around Freeport. Margaret knows the area so well it was like having a personal tour guide and although Kay and I both have been to Freeport before neither of us has been to this part. I was so shocked and saddened all over again to see boats like this that were destroyed beyond repair by hurricane Ike almost 2 1/2 years ago.

Yesterday Kay and I set out on a ramble and while driving down an alley in the tiny town of Wallis we spied this abandonded building that actually had a door open (not this door) and was not posted. What an incredible find it turned out to be, we spent a long time exploring and photographing this awesome find. The funny thing is we have been here many times and had no idea this was there. By the way is this an 8 or an S? I think it is an S, Kay thinks it is an 8 but then she is a mathteacher! What do you think? Photo is straight out of camera except for resizing, large is best.

To see detail of the door "handle" see the next photo.

On Sunday Kay (mathteacher) Jane (42leaves) and I spent the day photographing in the Houston area and visited several cemeteries. There is some really beautiful statuary to be found in cemeteries, especially angels so I have decided to create a set called Angels Among Us. I really do believe there are angels among us, some are cast in stone to forever watch over us and loved ones that have passed on and some are real angels that touch lives everyday, some without even realizing it. This angel was at a childs grave.

Yesterday Kay (mathteacher) and I went on a road trip and while driving down a country road I spotted this handsome stranger and pulled a U-turn to go back and check him out better. With those deep delicious eyes and lips that taste like gum drops I could not resist kissing him which Kay happened to get a picture of, thus I have a new icon:)

This morning I went over to Bolivar with mathteacher this morning to look for shells and photos.

The peninsula is still a wreck from Hurricane Ike, but there's activity everywhere as people clean up and rebuild.

As we were about to leave the butterfly center this one landed on my hand and talk about feeling as excited as a kid! Kay took these wonderful photos of this special moment, thanks my dear friend for being there! Oh and by the way yet another use for a tripod...LOL Had I not been able to rest my hand on my camera which was on the tripod it would have been moving way too much for her to get these shots, I was way too excited to hold still! I love the light in this one! See the next picture for an incredible closeup of the butterfly

ODC = All things wooden

Wonderful old very unusual rocking chair seen in a 1894 home today while on a ramble with Kay (mathteacher)and friends Pat (backup1940) and Judy.

Kay (mathteacher) Jane (42leaves) myself and another girlfriend spent last Saturday evening in Galveston having dinner, vwandering through shops on the Strand, taking photos and sipping some wonderful wine at Devine Wine.

I was not supposed to be where I was when this photo was taken. Not trespassing, just supposed to be somewhere else. See the previous photo for a panorama of before the sunrise. Thanks Kay (mathteacher) it was an awsome place and I'm sure we will be back there!

Yesterday Kay (mathteacher) and I were off on one of our back road adventures and stopped to photo some wildflowers. It was threatening to rain and under those conditions we always have a shower cap handy to quickly cover our cameras should it decide to downpour. I carry my shower cap in my pocket and Kay….well sometimes she does but not this time…LOL!

everything is late to bloom this year, so here's one from this time last year.

When we were visiting Olivewood Cemetery last weekend we noticed what appeared to be a well and being naturally curious...well we could not resist taking photos of what we saw....well what the heck why not...and there WE were looking back at us....well whaddya know..lol!

NO GRAPHICS AND NO INVITES TO GROUPS PLEASE!

Last evening Kay (mathteacher) and I found ourselves at a park in Seabrook that we never knew existed until a co-worker mentioned it to me last week. There is an awesome fishing pier there, wooded walking trails and picnic areas. This fisherman told us that just before the end of fishing season last year he caught a 44" Redfish....hummm a fish tale I wonder..lol. This pier is actually straight as an arrow and well built having been replaced after Hurricane Ike destroyed the original 3 1/2 years ago, We both loved how the light made the wood look all wavy like:)

It wouldn't be a road trip for Kay and I if we didn't end up in jail somewhere. In this case we were in the tiny town of Helena.

Today Kay (mathteacher), Jane (42leaves) and I took Blondie on her first photo trip. She did just great and we had a wonderful day at the Anahuac Wildlife Refuge. I cropped the sign out of this one so the details would be larger for you. The next photo shows the sign he was standing on which I have no doubt is exactly how he likes it....protected. ODC = Freedom

What a wonderful way to spend a beautiful afternoon. Friends backup1940, mathteacher, Reed photos, albrown, do-a-ue and I were cruising the back roads of the Texas hill country in search of Bluebonnets and although I love the horsepower of my Suburban I did find myself wishing I was on 1 horsepower instead....

Kay (mathteacher) and I have been so lucky on all of our photo trips we have never had to deal with rain until this day. We were so glad it happened only 30 minutes from home instead of on a 3 hour drive day:)

Today Kay (mathteacher) and I were off adventuring again. Early morning found us along a fence..again. I love the way this dew drop is suspended between the curls. Best viewed large

Kay and I happened upon this house totally by accident last weekend and found quite a bit to photograph including old FISH HEADS on the barbed wire fence. I really like both of these pictures shot from different angles and could not decide which to post so here are both:) See Kay (mathteacher's) photo of the fisheads here www.flickr.com/photos/1stlady/2053150252/

ODC = Inventions, where would we be without automobiles!

Oh Kay (mathteacher) look what I found for you!!!! You were just reminding me the other day about how much you would love to have an old pickup truck to cruise around in. I know it needs a bit....well a LOT of fixin up but the sign says it runs good so whaddya think? Probably runs as good as we could push it:)

ODC = Multicolored

I love the look of this garage we encountered on the ramble this past weekend with Kay (mathteacher) & Kim (kimp8126). So much to see and so very many colors:)

Hand held and in early morning light of a baby Green Tree Frog (Hyla cinerea)....about 3/4" long....on a grass seed head. This is from last season.

One of my longed-for-photo-quest has been to find a cemetery with bluebonnets growing wild. Several weekends ago on a backroad jaunt with Kay (mathteacher) we did one of our "lets go down this road" turns and could not believe this beautiful place we found. Not only the bluebonnets but a historical cemetery too! I know some folks think cemeteries are creepy or unsettling but this one was such a wonderful find. Not only were there bluebonnets but iron fence which is a favorite find and it was so far out in the country that all you could hear was the birds singing and the bees buzzing around the bluebonnets. Four pictures in this series.

Yesterday Kay (mathteacher) Rob Sneed (Rob Sneed) and I went on a day long ramble through the hill country around Brenham. We we blessed with the most incredible cool day with abundant sunshine and yes we found roads to travel and views we had not seen before including this beautiful red barn.

The courthouse was built in 1877 and reportedly had an ornate walnut staircase which is way long gone. Check mathteacher's photostream for a view of the inside as it is now. Frio was considered a "cowboy capital" and outpost cultural center during the 1870's. After the town picked up all the buildings but the courthouse and the jail and moved to Pearsall where the railroad was, this courthouse was purchased by W. Yancey Kilgore and it subsequently housed a general store, the post office and in 1884 Frio Acadmey. What a shame indeed to see this fall into decay. 4 photos in this series

One of the roads that Kay (mathteacher) and our friend D'anna and I traveled on our wildflower run back in April. The wildflowers below are some that we found while traveling this road.

Many years and lots of trys to capture a bird in flight and today I tried working on panning.... this is my "aah-ha" picture of the day:) Taken at St.Joseph's Island on a road trip with Kay (mathteacher), Pat (backup1940) and Judy (Pat's wife). Best viewed large.

'Mondrian Cuisenaire by Su_G' in a duvet-cover mockup (c/o Roostery)

Maths never made any sense to me... until the "New Maths" and Cuisenaire rods. This is my homage to my best math teachers, the "New Maths", Cuisenaire rods, and Mondrian (and was my entry in Spoonflower's Math Contest) now turned into a quilt cover!

Line art.

With plenty of space to fill in your own combinations, originally I thought this could make a fun activity for young people starting to learn mathematics - but I'm not sure the bed linen is quite the place for that...

The six-car Holiday Express train includes a smiling tank car “Rudy”; a flat car carrying Santa’s sleigh, reindeer and a miniature village; a ginger bread box car; the elves’ workshop; the reindeer’s stable; and a little red caboose.

Mike and I drove an hour and 45 minutes and met Pat (Backup1940) and Judy (Do-a-u-e) in El Campo Texas to see this really neat train and even though it rained it was so worth it! What a beautiful train this is and the wet conditions made it all the more special for photographing because of the awesome reflections:) To see the engines that pull this train see my comment below after mathteachers, I accidentally made this photo public before I posted that one as a comment.

On the roadtrip with Kay (mathteacher) and Margaret (Reed Photo) last month I spotted this entrance to what appears to be a horse farm of some kind. This is a part of the gate....mmmmm I like how this turned out and I know Kay has been waiting for me to post this one:)

Today while traveling the backroads Kay (mathteacher) and I stopped to photo an old house and noticed a Longhorn cow in the pasture across the road had a little calf. As we watched we realized it was a newborn and were totaly enthralled to watch as mom cleaned and lovingly encouraged her new calf. There are 5 photos in this series.

Kay (mathteacher) and I were taking photos of the horses from the road of a wonderful ranch called Bluebonnet Farm near Belleville. The owners saw us and graciously invited us to come in and photograph all we wanted to.

Kay (mathteacher) and I were prowling Galveston again this morning and walked past this alley which I could not resist shooting. See note about the painting on the wall. I did not see this until I downloaded the painting, must go back and see what the painting is. View large.

Warren, Connecticut. For Kay (mathteacher). Salt and pepper 8' from me, christmas tree 30' behind. 135mm at f/2 (wide open). Notice the focus strip on the table which shows you how shallow this is. Believe it or not, that's Gary on the couch on the right.

Kay (mathteacher) and I came across a wonderful pasture with six foals and quite a few mares and geldings. It was quite cool out and the young ones were having a wonderful time playing.

On our way home from San Antonio last weekend Kay (mathteacher) and stopped to photograph the wildflowers in Rancho Cemetery which is all that remains of the once thriving town of Rancho. Hard to believe that at one time there was a post office with semiweekly mail service, two churches, a district school and a steam cotton gin. Cemetery is located 2 miles north of Nixon on SR80.

Spotted while wandering around Taylor, Texas with my friends Kay (mathteacher...) and Marilyn (photomajik).

Yesterday Kay (mathteacher) and I set out on what turned out to be a 445 mile/16 hour road trip and really found some beautiful wildflowers along the way. Without a doubt the wildflowers here are incredibly beautiful. I do not know the names of all of these but the ones I do know are in the tags. This was taken near Yoakum Texas. There are three photos in this series

Funny how I didn't realize this looked like a longhorn until I downloaded it. Also funny how the word ain't came to mind for the title, not a word that I ever really use but my dad did a lot...

Another rusty find from our ramble to the piney woods junkyard with Kay (mathteacher) and Kim (Leah-N-Me)

Today along with friends Kay(mathteacher), Jane (42leaves), Pat(backup1940) Judy (do-a-u-e) we enjoyed seeing some of Galveston's most historic churches on the Sacred Places tour. What a wonderful opportunity to see these beautiful churches some of which are no longer open to the public. So often Kay and I have photographed scenes around the outside of these churches and to see the inside was awesome!

A pair of spoonbills found near Galveston Texas in April. It was thundering and lightening flashes were abundant the day I went there with Mathteacher and Photomajik, so we got non-sunset photos, but that's ok. It was a very nice time and I loved just seeing the birds.

Spotted while wandering around Bartlett, Texas with my friends Kay (mathteacher...) and Marilyn (photomajik).
