Okay, so the story goes...
Our G.A.T.E. lead (gifted and talented education for whomever doesn't know) came up with this amazing idea for a fundraiser. We had 10 baskets of different items donated by both teachers and parents that were worth $300+, easily. We were going to have a Family Bingo Night to raise funds... $5 a bingo card, more cards, more chances to win these baskets. Even the non-GATE parents were interested, and everyone was excited. Pretty soon we get a call from the District Office (knowing, however, that we'd THOUGHT we'd gone through all the appropriate channels) that BINGO is GAMBLING and therefore against District policy. So Family Bingo Night had to be scrapped.
The GATE coordinator? Crushed. :( My principal? Razzed throughout the district for even trying. So, when it came time for me to do the annual holiday e-card, my principal had an idea in mind. :)
Hence this... Kolb's ability to laugh at themselves and their misfortune, and even take a jab at the district for causing such a fuss.
Because really... is bingo really gambling, when we play it phonetically, mathmatically, cognitively, educationally... throughout the schools?
You decide.
