Also known as NGC 4258, this barred spiral galaxy in Canes Venetici was actually discovered by Messier's assistant, Pierre Mechain and only added to the "Messier List" in 1947.
The galaxy's central supermassive black hole is associated with powerful jets of material ejected by intense magnetic fields associated with the spinning black hole - this in turn excites hydrogen gas which is flung out in two arms curving away from the central black hole. These arms glow and emit in a number of wavelengths including hydrogen alpha (red/pink) at 656.4nm.
I have just about caught one of the "anomalous arms" as a faint pink curved line at about 8 o'clock on the bright galactic core.
To the right of M106 is the irregular peculiar galaxy NGC 4248.
Taken remotely in Mayhill, New Mexico with iTelescope T21.
17 x 600s luminosity subs
10 x 600s R,G and B subs.
5 x 600s Hydrogen alpha subs
In this image, "red" was a blend of 40% hydrogen alpha filtered stacked image and 60% red stacked image. I used the PI linear fit tool to match brightness of the 2 integrated images before combining with Pixel Math.

Image scale: 0.96 arcsec/pixel.
NGC 281, IC 11 or Sh2-184 is a bright emission nebula and part of an H II region in the northern constellation of Cassiopeia and is part of the Milky Way's Perseus Spiral Arm. This 20×30 arcmin sized nebulosity is also associated with open cluster IC 1590, several Bok globules and the multiple stars, B 1. It collectively forms Sh2-184, spanning over a larger area of 40 arcmin. A recent distance from radio parallaxes of water masers at 22 GHz made during 2014 is estimated it lies 2.82±0.20 kpc (9200 ly) from us. Colloquially, NGC 281 is also known as the Pacman Nebula for its resemblance to the video game character. This is an HOO Pixel Math image.

NGC 7380 is a young open cluster of stars in the northern circumpolar constellation of Cepheus, discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1787. The surrounding emission nebulosity is known colloquially as the Wizard Nebula, which spans an angle of 25′. German-born astronomer William Herschel included his sister's discovery in his catalog and labelled it (H VIII.77). The nebula is known as (SH2-142) in the 1959 Sharpless catalog. It is extremely difficult to observe visually, usually requiring very dark skies and an O-III filter. The NGC 7380 complex is located at a distance of approximately 8.5k light-years from the Sun, in the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way. This is an HOO Pixel Math image.

I've been away for a long time ( well it seems long to me, but what are a few weeks in a lifetime? ), this is what my life has been feeling like lately, chaos, ok I'm a little exaggerating, there is still some order here (and in the picture too;) )
Serious illnesses of some loved ones was the cause of my absence, now everything has almost returned to normal, hopefully I will get rid of my fatigue and find my creative juices again and be able to post some new stuff.
The image above is not new, at least not for me, I've got dozens of math images lying on the shelves.

It was supposed to look like a galaxy of stars burst to form a butterfly, the materials in max were acting up a lot (and so was my 500 Mhz P3 system back then) - resave in photoshop to reduce size.
An experiment to get a colour image from a Ha mono stack by removing the stars and combining back with the starless image in RGB using Pixel Math.
Imaged at ASERO (Astronomical Society of Edinburgh Remote Observatory), Trevinca, Spain on 8/9th of April 2025.
Equipment:
TS-Optics 12" f/4 ONTC Carbon Tube Newtonian (f/4.6 with coma corrector), TS-Optics ToupTek MONO Camera 2600MM Pro, JTW mount. Baader Ha Filter.
49 x 300 seconds Ha images. Total 4 hours 5 minutes.
