The Marvelous Bridges or Wonderful Bridges (Bulgarian: Чудни[те] мостове, Chudni[te] mostove) are natural arches in the Rhodope Mountains of southern Bulgaria. They are located in the karst valley of the Erkyupriya River in the Western Rhodopes at 1,450 metres (4,760 ft) metres above sea level, at the foot of Persenk Peak.
The "bridges" were formed by the erosive activity of the once larger Erkyupryia River. It transformed the marble clefts into a deep-water cave, the ceiling of which eroded through time and collapsed, possibly during an earthquake. Geologists suggest that the water carried the debris away.
As a result, the two remaining bridge-shaped outcrops remained. The larger one (upstream) is 15 metres at its widest and 96 metres long, and shaped by three vaulted arches, the largest of which is 45 metres high and 40 metres wide. The river flows under the middle-sized arch. The larger Wonderful Bridge is passable under the vaults, where birds nest in the marble clefts. The smaller bridge is 200 metres downstream. It is impassable to tourists, 60 metres in length, with a total height of 50 metres, 30 metres at the highest point of the arch. A third, small and inaccessible, formation follows, the entrance to a pothole where the river's waters disappear underground, reaching a sump after 3 km.
The Wonderful Bridges are included among the 100 National Touristic Places of the Bulgarian Touristic Union, under number 85.
Steep granite cliffs, beautiful vistas, glaciers, waterfalls and fauna, make Sam Ford Fjord in the Canadian Arctic, one of the most beautiful, spectacular fjords in the world.
This marvelous polar bear was on an ice floe a good distance from the hamlet of Ittoqqortoomitt in eastern Greenland. The bear did not appear to be very happy to see us.

Saône river's front with its multicolored facades made marvelous reflections in the water at sunset. The view has a lot of character, except for an ugly concrete tower on the right that clashes within Macon's skyline.
It is the departmental archives tower. Built in the 1960s, 50 meters high ((164 ft) on 22 levels, it received in June 2025 the “Heritage of the 20th century” label. Its architect, whom I will not mention, does not deserve congratulations for the bad taste of this construction. Modern towers can be much more beautiful.
But at the time, such concrete horrors were often built. Asbestos was also used extensively as an insulator. People then thougt these towers had all the virtues.
I generally avoid this ugliness in photos, but, even if one can regret it, it's part of the city's skyline. Moreover, it was difficult here to do otherwise, because I wanted to show you most of the Saône river's front from the Saint-Laurent bridge.

Un miroir dans l'eau au soleil couchant.
Le front de Saône avec ses façades multicolores se reflétait merveilleusement dans l'eau au soleil couchant. Une vue avec beaucoup de cachet, si on excepte une vilaine tour en béton sur la droite qui détonne dans le paysage urbain de Mâcon
Il s'agit de la tour des archives départementales. Construite dans les années 1960, haute de 50 mètres sur 22 niveaux, elle a reçu en juin 2025 le Label « Patrimoine du XXe siècle » . Son architecte que je ne citerai pas ne mérite pas des félicitations pour le mauvais goût de cette construction. En matière de tours modernes, on peut faire nettement plus beau. Mais à l'époque, on a souvent construit de pareilles horreurs en béton. On utilisait aussi abondamment l'amiante comme isolant. On parait alors ces tours de toutes les vertus.
J'évite en général cette mocheté dans les photos, mais, même si on peut le regretter, elle fait partie du paysage urbain de la ville. De plus, c'était difficile ici de faire autrement, car je voulais vous montrer la plus grande partie du front de Saône à partir du pont de Saint-Laurent.

The Monarch is a milkweed butterfly. Other common names depending on region include milkweed, common tiger, wanderer, and black veined brown. It may be the most familiar North American butterfly. Its wings feature an easily recognizable black, orange, and white pattern, with a wingspan of 8.9–10.2 cm (3 1⁄2–4 in).
The eastern North American monarch population is notable for its annual southward late-summer/autumn migration from the northern and central United States and southern Canada to Florida and Mexico. During the fall migration, monarchs cover thousands of miles, with a corresponding multi-generational return north.
The western North American population of monarchs west of the Rocky Mountains often migrates to sites in southern California but has been found in overwintering Mexican sites as well.

I love the colours of these amazing ducks!
The light was fading fast, so I had to push the ISO very high.
The low light performance of this camera is supposed to be very good, but I hadn't tested it until now!

Oke er was sneeuw gevallen. Verder was het een vieze papzooi met weinig sfeer en licht. Nee dan die dag, 22 dec.2007. Het vroor tot in de middag en er hing rijp in de bomen. Een machtige dag om foto's te maken.

The Welsh castle at Criccieth is a marvelous sight to behold, sitting as it does so high and majestic atop a rocky promontory which juts dramatically out into Tremadog Bay. Yet, the site has also stirred up controversy over the years. A combination of Welsh and English remains, there has been much speculation as to which areas of the castle belong to which building periods. Was the inner or outer bailey the original stronghold? Did the Welsh or the English build the castle's most recognizable and dominating feature: the massive twin-towered gatehouse? And did the Welsh or the English construct the fascinating Engine Tower, near the gatehouse, to be used as a powerful platform of death? The dilemma is understandable if one considers the actual structural features at the site relative to its history, a history that encompassed a relatively short time frame but included some very formidable personalities.
Best time of year? Maybe. I love all seasons, but nothing beats the happiness I feel on a sunny day in May, when the colours of nature are unbelievably intense. Knowing I have a long beautiful summer ahead of me...
