Marilyn lives over in the northeast corner of our yard. She has grown tall and sparse because nearby trees cast much shade on her. This year she pushed out a beautiful array of blooms like this.

Marilyn Monroe mural by ZimerNYC at the Ridge Hotel

Instead of stepping OUT of the box, I'm stepping into them .... the box, square or cube format. Wanting to give things a bit of a jolt and a refresh I'm shifting gears a bit and reducing the scale of my work to see what I can do inside perfect squares or cubes instead of the "widescreen" that's dominated most of 2017's work.

I took this series of Pano-Sabotage shots a few years ago with the full intention of eventually getting them all into a box or cube. Warhol absolutely came to mind, but I wanted to launch off from Andy and do something different with Pano-Sabotage.

I posted most of these shots as individual pictures back when I first shot them in 2015 but now that I have the software required to realize the cubed Marilyn, the image, as it was originally intended appears now.

De-constructing the cult of fame and the 'worship' of popular figures.

Herr Direktor? Somebody wants to speak you.

Who? Urgent works and thoughts have to be done!

Her name is Marilyn. Blond. You've jobs advertised?

Not that I know. Marilyn? Now I’m curious. Ask her in.

Oh. Uh. Hi. Hello. Won’t you please sit down? Coffee? Dom Perignon?

Too kind. But I will get straight to the point.

Well, that’s how I like it. You search for a new job?

Um, well, actually not. I’m retired since 60 years.

Really? Unbelievable, you look so.....you look so....fresh?

To put it very briefly, I have a commission, or better a mission for you.

Now I’m surprised, young lady. We have full order books!

Even across the pond we heard about your excellent textile mill.

Oh don’t say that, I could flush with pleasure. But it’s right!

I’m representative of the people of the United States and we are

..in serious trouble. We are not able to produce enough face masks.

This is indeed serious. We can produce it in exquisite fabric quality. How many?

For now 200 millions should do it. Tell me the price please.

Let's talk about the discounts first:

..10% discount, if you sing „Happy Birthday Herr Direktor“ for me,

..and 20%, if you sing it on an air shaft!

There are some celebrities that just need one name. Marilyn Monroe was one of them. This is part of a series of stamps created by the U.S. Postal Service memorializing celebrities and events from many different venues. HMM, everyone ! !

These towers by the Mississauga city centre are affectionately named after the curvaceous actress. Today's clouds were changing rapidly.

DESPITE BEING MOST DESIRABLE WOMAN OF HER TIME AND ALL THE RICHES, SHE WAS NOT HAPPY.

Biography

Marilyn Monroe personified Hollywood glamour with an unparalleled glow and energy that enamored the world. Although she was an alluring beauty with voluptuous curves and a generous pout, Marilyn was more than a '50s sex goddess. Her apparent vulnerability and innocence, in combination with an innate sensuality, has endeared her to the global consciousness. She dominated the age of movie stars to become, without question, the most famous woman of the 20th Century.

She was born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California, to Gladys Baker. As the identity of her father is undetermined, she was later baptized Norma Jeane Baker. Gladys had been a film cutter at RKO studios, but psychological problems prevented her from keeping the job and she was eventually committed to a mental institution.

Norma Jeane spent most of her childhood in foster homes and orphanages until 1937, when she moved in with family friend Grace McKee Goddard. Unfortunately, when Grace's husband was transferred to the East Coast in 1942, the couple couldn't afford to take 16-year-old Norma Jeane with them. Norma Jeane had two options: return to the orphanage or get married.

On June 19, 1942 she wed her 21-year-old neighbor Jimmy Dougherty, whom she had been dating for six months. "She was a sweet, generous and religious girl," Jimmy said. "She liked to be cuddled." By all accounts Norma Jeane loved Jimmy, and they were happy together until he joined the Merchant Marines and was sent to the South Pacific in 1944.

After Jimmy left, Norma Jeane took a job on the assembly line at the Radio Plane Munitions factory in Burbank, California. Several months later, photographer David Conover saw her while taking pictures of women contributing to the war effort for Yank magazine. He couldn't believe his luck. She was a "photographer's dream." Conover used her for the shoot and then began sending modeling jobs her way. The camera loved Norma Jeane, and within two years she was a reputable model with many popular magazine covers to her credit. She began studying the work of legendary actresses Jean Harlow and Lana Turner, and enrolled in drama classes with dreams of stardom. However, Jimmy's return in 1946 meant Norma Jeane had to make another choice- this time between her marriage and her career.

Norma Jeane divorced Jimmy in June of 1946, and signed her first studio contract with Twentieth Century Fox on August 26, 1946.

The both of them, in blossom at the same time!!

While trying to install a ceiling fan, we discovered this old homemade Marilyn Monroe clock in the attic space.

Turns out the photos is from her last 1962 Bruce Sterling photo sessions for Vogue magazine.

Were it that this were a real picture, easily extricated from the prison of time, I might sell it for 1000s of dollars.

But what an unexpected discovery, regardless.
