Praia do Farol - Arraial do Cabo/RJ.
Considerada uma das praias mais bonitas do Brasil, fica na Ilha de Cabo Frio e é acessível somente por barco. A viagem dura 40 minutos e, para desembarcar por ali é preciso autorização da Marinha, obtida em Arraial.

BNSF L-CHI6571-14 rolls through the spring switch at Neilson Junction south of Marion, Illinois. They are pulling from a stop after meeting an empty UP/AEP Cook coal train headed north. They are coming off the BNSF Beardstown Sub and are now on the UP Marion Sub. ATSF 636, a warbonnet C44-9W, leads today's 657 local to Paducah.
Captured with a Skywatcher 180 mm Mak and a Nikon Z7II in video mode. Video images were stacked and the resulting stack adjusted with Photoshop.
Seeing was only good with the air rippling visible.
Seeing the edge of Mare Orientale is infrequent and only visible due to the Moon's libration or rocking in its orbit.

MARE IMBRIUM
The Running Man from my previous post had been on the lam earlier and earlier each evening, ducking behind trees before 10:30pm. I disliked ceding the night and its favorable conditions to the fat raccoon that loped up the driveway to pay its respects (we startled one another so badly that the creature loped back down the driveway at a far less measured pace). I skewed my telescope to the waxing moon and captured this image of the Mare Imbrium neighborhood.
Many thanks to everyone for your views, faves and supportive comments. These are always very much appreciated.

Vedrai una città regale, addossata ad una collina alpestre, superba per uomini e per mura, il cui solo aspetto la indica Signora del Mare: Genova.

I realize there's a more scientific name to classify these clouds. As a little girl my father always called these clouds mare's tails. I had a picture above my bed of white horses flying in the sky, their long flowing tails trailing behind them, wisping upwards like this. So whenever I see clouds like these, it takes me back.....
Taken at Mare Island, Vallejo, CA.
Last Saturday was the annual AlumNight meeting of the Nocturnes, up at Mare Island.
Mare Island is the oldest Naval base on the West Coast of the United States. It was decomisioned in 1995. It is being converted to a mixed use development: housing, schools, light and heavy industry, conservation, and even golf!
