RKO_2762. A warm welcome by the matriarch? A great tusker and strange enough her tusks are not curved like most elephants have.

At 3:40 p.m. on August 20, 1988, A westbound Santa Fe freight climbs Edelstein Hill east of Edelstein, Illinois. The train is led by AT&SF EMD FP45 No. 5990, painted in the doomed red and yellow SPSF merger scheme. Built as No. 100 and equipped with a steam generator, the cowl locomotive pulled the railroad’s crack passenger trains to the end of Santa Fe passenger service. The future will see the locomotive once again carry the number 100 in red and silver warbonnet colors as part of Santa Fe’s Super Fleet.
