For WAH but not pic of day

i love maps

I never much cared for this unit once it was painted up in this scheme. Just about everything WC did turned to gold in my mind except for this beast. The flag unit was much nicer in my opinion but anyway here is 3026 leading 7510 on the OACTI at Soo Yard on February 22, 2001.

This is a map butterfly (Araschnia levana) in summer colors.

Could this be an ancient map of the world? Some of the continents are correct but not all are shown.

The arrival of a Western Swamphen, the second pf this species to be seen in Britain this year has resulted in this beautiful; nature reserve being put on the map. The first Western Swamphen was seen at Minsmere in late July and this could be the first wild bird seen in Britain of this species.

Other wildlife included 5 Spoonbills although numbers had peaked to 22, minimum of 10 wader species including Spotted Redshank and Curlew Sandpiper, 5 birds of prey species including Hobby and plenty of Marsh Harrier, Little Egret, a hooting Tawny Owl and at least 10 Bearded Tits.

There were still quite a few Dragonflies out and 3 species of butterflies.

In a superb natural setting, where the rivers Trent and Ouse join to form the Humber, Alkborough Flats is an exciting project, which helps prevent thousands of homes from flooding. The site is perfect for lovers of wildlife. By breaching the river defences new habitats have been created, which are a haven for wading birds and wildfowl, making the site an ideal area for bird watching and leisurely walks. A number of events are held at Alkborough Flats throughout the year, including group walks, bat detecting and photography sessions. Limited accessibility on some footpaths.

Our Daily Challenge 29 December - 4 January : Map.

The walls are thick with mosses with all the damp, and even as a child I thought they looked like maps.

Now, with images from Google Earth in full colour, They are even more like views from above.

Landkaartje (voorjaarsgeneratie)

An old map measurer wheel (just looked this up on Mr Google to see if there was a proper name for it, but disappointingly there doesn't seem to be one) that must be over 60 years old so I call that ancient! My Dad used to love using it and it came with us on every holiday in the UK.

Had the maps out by the kitchen table, whilst having my afternoon coffee. I'm planning to travel to the Canadian rocky mountains later this year (hopefully), something I've dreamt to see for a long time! Checking and exploring the area via the maps, searching the Internet high and low, thinking this should be a great adventure.

Reminiscing by looking at a Flickr map... What wonderful stories this map of lower Manhattan and its surroundings brings back to me...

I really need the next wider view to really cover my beginnings. I lived, worked, or studied in all the five boroughs of New York City: Staten Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and The Bronx. This map shows only small parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.
