Veltrusy Chateau

Happy day all fine Flickr friends.

Texure: Kerstin Frank, Lenabem Anna. Thank you.

The tower of the castle is part of a defensive castle from the 1450s.

Swedish King Gustav Wasa made the castle a big fortress, with walls, moats.

Gustav Wasa's oldest son, heir to the throne, was held here by his brothers, and died of food poisoning. in the history tale , poisoned via pea soup by his brothers.

In the 1700s the castle was owned by De Geer, owner of the other major iron factory in Uppland, and converted it into a baroque castle.

In this day and age, it is privately owned, but open to the public to visit.

The building is located by a lake, surrounded by a beautiful park, with ponds, greenhouses and orangeries.

Visited my photo friend in Söderköping for two days.

We traveled around the country to photograph.

Near her home is this fairy tale castle, originally from the 16th century, but the current building is significantly younger.

The castle is called Ekenäs, and many strange words and myths are about it.

One of them is: Greve Mauritz Vellingk has got rid of secret actions and the boy who helped him was then wrapped in a secretarial basement not to come out and tell the secret. The renovated room, which has never been opened, is called "Nisses hole". It is said that if space opens, a major accident will hit both the castle and its owners.

Another is on the so-called Hönsagumman, which is said to have saved the castle from hostile attacks and therefore become portrayed, which otherwise was unusual for service people. She still keeps a watchful eye on everyone who enters the castle.

Alderlea, meaning meadow of Alder trees, was constructed circa 1867 for Kenneth Chisholm, businessman, political figure and son-in-law of John Elliott, a founding father of Brampton.

Designed as an Italianate villa, Alderlea is one of Ontario’s finest examples of this architectural style. The original grandeur of the estate included a large front lawn and garden, which is now Gage Park, Brampton’s first municipal park.

Another reason why this is my favorite place to be!!

The Cutting Estate, located on the east side of the Connetquot River, was purchased in 1880 from Pierre Lorillard, by the Cutting family and in 1886 the mansion was built.

This western-style mansion with a rose garden is situated behind the lookout for the Japanese garden. It was completed in 1917 and proved its high seismic capacity as it was not affected by the Kantou Earthquake in 1923 that devastated Tokyo.

It is renovated as a cafe serving coffee and cakes after spending a few decades as a haunted mansion.

It was designed by Josiah Conder, a British who was hired by the Meiji government as a professor of architecture, married a Japanese woman and spent the rest of his life in Japan as an architect. He did not only designed western-style architectures, but also educated many Japanese architects.

He is regarded as the father of Japanese modern architecture.

Abandoned Mansion, USA

On our holiday to Portugal we came across a large house built in the 18th century..it seemed to be deserted and I longed to go inside to see the interior...when we moved to the village where it was, we got to know the son of the owner and were treated to a tour of this grand old mansion that once was the place where the local bishop stayed when he visited ...there was also a grand ballroom, and a room for gambling with many stories associated with it...a truly amazing place.

Dunnington Mansion is a abandoned mansion near Farmville Virginia. My photography group was allowed on site by the owners.

The Mansion House in York, England is the home of the Lord Mayors of York during their term in office. It is situated in St Helen's Square, where York's Coney Street and Lendal intersect in the city centre. It is built in an early Georgian style. The Mansion House is the earliest purpose-built house for a Lord Mayor still in existence, and predates the Mansion House in London by at least twenty years.

The foundation stone for the Mansion House was laid in 1725, with the building being completed seven years later in 1732. The architect who designed the Mansion House is unknown, although the frontage may be by William Etty.

This Victorian mansion was completed for timber baron William Carson in 1886. it is now home of the Ingomar Club. I restored the photo recovered from a film roll taken in 1988 by my wife Diane.

When I am visiting a place I typically try to research places that will give me the best view or the highest point of view.

When visiting Portland - one of the places that popped up was the Pittock Mansion. The last image in this album is the view of Portland that is in the opposite direction of this shot. The Mansion itself is a very nice place. They have it staged in time period items showing how they lived if that is your kind of thing.

Have a wonderful Thursday.

I am very proud to present my third release for MdMhome: The Bamboo Mansion.

Honoring the Japanese tradition to reuse vintage materials when building a new home we created this ultra modern home, contrasting old beams and sliding doors.

The result is a contemporary home with an open-concept layout and very few raw materials such as concrete and black marble to let the vintage bamboo elements shine.

The Spencer Mansion, part of the Spencer family's real estate, was a manor built in the Arklay Mountains by architect George Trevor for the aristocrat Oswell E. Spencer. After finishing its construction, George and his family were invited there.

During the t-Virus outbreak events around Raccoon City, the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) stumbled upon the mansion; which was now overrun with zombies and "monsters". It was later destroyed after the incident.

This is a local landmark that has fallen into disrepair. Built around 1880 the house must have been magnificent in its day. It still appears to be relatively good shape.

A gorgeous mansion on Lake Michigan.

One of the most populated districts in Hongkong. Parts of Transformers 4 were filmed here.

The long abandoned and badly decaying Latherow mansion is pretty much unshootable this time of the year because of the overgrowth. But it is still easy to see from this angle,it was a pretty special place in its day.It is rumoured that the mansion was a part of the Underground Railroad. It was built prior to the Civil War,and was occupied by a Latherow family relative till 1997....

The title refers to the town the mansion sits on the edge of,Fountain Green.

Also known as Mableton, built in 1877, is an historic landmark in Santa Rosa, California. In 1959, it was used in the filming of Pollyanna. I love old mansions and their sense of nostalgia.
