Facts:

Forsmark's mill is a well-preserved Walloon mill dating back to at least the 1570s.

With good access to firewood and running water, the ironworks grew up in the middle of the forest in a part of Sweden.

The workers lived and worked in the limited area around the ironworks, and the mills had to keep up with the labor force and, through schools, healthcare and the like, improved the conditions of the employees. The picture shows the church with smaller houses for workers. The house to the right in the picture was a hospital. In the centrally located house lived foremen and better educated people.

For hundreds of years, Dannemora Mines was one of Sweden's largest financial assets. With the ore from there, the mills in Uppland during the 1600s developed into the country's most profitable industries. The term Walloon mill, which has become the collective name for the mills, comes from the many Walloons who were recruited to Uppland from today's Belgium for their professional skills as a blacksmith. The book Vallonbruk in Uppland lists 32 places as utility environments.

This is from a walloon ironworks environment.

Walloon ironworks is a collective name for a number of industrial communities in northern Uppland, constructed in the 1600s.

A financier, Louis De Geer in Amsterdam, imported labor to Sweden, Walloons of Wallonia in southern Belgium current, which was then a world leader in the iron industry. Walloon ironworks in Sweden came in this way to become the world leader by, among other things because of the high quality of the iron ore from the Dannemora mines.

This was the foundation for the industrialization of the farming community Sweden.

The ironworks was strictly limited. The workers were given housing, food, education, healthcare, but few opportunities to move. For each work home was a building for livestock as cattle, pigs, chickens.

Nowadays, it is an industrial memory of an era that is almost forgotten.

Beautiful views of the rear of the mansion... we always eat lunch on the covered patio... the food is delicious!!

Another reason why this is my favorite place to be!!

The Cutting Estate, located on the east side of the Connetquot River, was purchased in 1880 from Pierre Lorillard, by the Cutting family and in 1886 the mansion was built.

There are a lot of movies, documentaries, and Halloween tours dedicated to the mysteries, horrors, and history of these mansions.

So, when I saw in the store this decoration for Halloween, I had to buy it and it was on sale. It has lots of creepy sounds and laughs. So, I decided to take this photo and one from my son's Skeletor action figure to make this image.

Happy Halloween! 🎃

When I am visiting a place I typically try to research places that will give me the best view or the highest point of view.

When visiting Portland - one of the places that popped up was the Pittock Mansion. The last image in this album is the view of Portland that is in the opposite direction of this shot. The Mansion itself is a very nice place. They have it staged in time period items showing how they lived if that is your kind of thing.

Have a wonderful Thursday.

This Victorian mansion was completed for timber baron William Carson in 1886. it is now home of the Ingomar Club. I restored the photo recovered from a film roll taken in 1988 by my wife Diane.

A gorgeous mansion on Lake Michigan.

Walking around Milton, Delaware an old shipping town.

This charming Victorian is on the tour, named Queen of the May because that was the month construction was completed... and it is obvious what a queenly residence it is. This design is by Archimedes Russell, a professor of architecture at Syracuse University who has much of his work listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This house displays the era's extravagant details and strong coloring. After WWI such statements fell out of favor, and one after another, these stunning "painted ladies" were garbed in more modern colors. It is wonderful to see so many of them being returned to their origins. (Elm Street is a particulary good area to see many stunning homes which are not listed in the tour brochure.)

The self-guided walking and driving tours of Malone include a number of historic churches and many fine homes featuring Greek Revival and Victorian-style architecture. The beautifully restored homes include many Queen Anne-style homes, "The Queen of the May" at 100 Elm Street was featured on the cover of the 1992 book, America's Painted Ladies.

The long abandoned and badly decaying Latherow mansion is pretty much unshootable this time of the year because of the overgrowth. But it is still easy to see from this angle,it was a pretty special place in its day.It is rumoured that the mansion was a part of the Underground Railroad. It was built prior to the Civil War,and was occupied by a Latherow family relative till 1997....

The title refers to the town the mansion sits on the edge of,Fountain Green.

One of the most populated districts in Hongkong. Parts of Transformers 4 were filmed here.
