This western-style mansion with a rose garden is situated behind the lookout for the Japanese garden. It was completed in 1917 and proved its high seismic capacity as it was not affected by the Kantou Earthquake in 1923 that devastated Tokyo.
It is renovated as a cafe serving coffee and cakes after spending a few decades as a haunted mansion.
It was designed by Josiah Conder, a British who was hired by the Meiji government as a professor of architecture, married a Japanese woman and spent the rest of his life in Japan as an architect. He did not only designed western-style architectures, but also educated many Japanese architects.
He is regarded as the father of Japanese modern architecture.

There are a lot of movies, documentaries, and Halloween tours dedicated to the mysteries, horrors, and history of these mansions.
So, when I saw in the store this decoration for Halloween, I had to buy it and it was on sale. It has lots of creepy sounds and laughs. So, I decided to take this photo and one from my son's Skeletor action figure to make this image.
Happy Halloween! 🎃

«Esta obra ha venido a engalanar la Alhambra;
es morada para los pacíficos y para los guerreros;
entre su techo, su suelo y sus cuatro paredes;
pero las labradas maderas de su techo aún son más extraordinarias;
construcción donde ya había la más elevada mansión;

The long abandoned and badly decaying Latherow mansion is pretty much unshootable this time of the year because of the overgrowth.But it is still easy to see from this angle,it was a pretty special place in its day.It is rumoured that the mansion was a part of the Underground Railroad.It was built prior to the Civil War,and was occupied by a Latherow family relative till 1997....
The title refers to the town the mansion sits on the edge of,Fountain Green.

This charming Victorian is on the tour, named Queen of the May because that was the month construction was completed... and it is obvious what a queenly residence it is. This design is by Archimedes Russell, a professor of architecture at Syracuse University who has much of his work listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
This house displays the era's extravagant details and strong coloring. After WWI such statements fell out of favor, and one after another, these stunning "painted ladies" were garbed in more modern colors. It is wonderful to see so many of them being returned to their origins. (Elm Street is a particulary good area to see many stunning homes which are not listed in the tour brochure.)
The self-guided walking and driving tours of Malone include a number of historic churches and many fine homes featuring Greek Revival and Victorian-style architecture. The beautifully restored homes include many Queen Anne-style homes, "The Queen of the May" at 100 Elm Street was featured on the cover of the 1992 book, America's Painted Ladies.

For the last two years this was our home. Everything evolved around this Mansion, friends droped by, its halls were filled with laughter and joy. But in the spirit of reworking our estates, it will be torn down to make room for a new house finally. Ciao, casa Moonborn, and thank you for your protection and your comfort in all those years
One of the landmarks of our city, the Reiss Mansion was built in 1911 by JP Reiss. Reiss was a coal and steamship magnate who unfortunately died at 42 years old, just four years after completing this magnificent home. It is located at 311 St. Clair Avenue, Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
Patterned after an English townhouse, the architecture is Georgian Revival. It boasts 10,000 square feet of living space. Offering great views of Lake Michigan, it is now officially called Castino Lakeview Mansion and it is rented out for special events or for temporary lodging.
I passed this house as I was on my daily walk and I thought I would feature it here on my photostream.
Thanks for your views and comments :)
Aigburth Vale house at 212 Aigburth Road in Towson was designed in 1868, by architects Niernsee & Neilson, as a country home for wealthy actor John E. Owens.
Most of the property of the estate was originally known as the Rock Spring Farm of Edward Taylor and the parcel was reported to have been over 197 acres (0.80 km2) when it was purchased by Owens in 1853. The mansion is a wood-framed, three-story structure is an example of Second Empire architecture and as such, is topped by mansard roofs on the tower and wings. For a period after 1886, the mansion functioned as an inn and as a summer home for Owen's widow, Mary. In 1889 the majority of the land associated with the estate was sold at auction by the mortgage holder: the Sheppard Pratt Hospital to John Hubner, a Catonsville developer. Thereafter the mansion house and surrounding 4.9 acres (20,000 m2) was sold to Dr. George F. Sargent, as a private mental hospital from 1919 to 1950. Hubner sold the agricultural land to the Towson Nurseries who subdivided portions of it for sale to the Baltimore County Board of Education in 1943 and 1946 for use as the site for Towson High School and it's surrounding campus. The mansion building was leased to Baltimore County Board of Education in 1950 for use as administrative offices and thereafter became the current owners of the building. The Owen estate was once surrounded by over 200 acres (0.81 km2) but today it stands within a suburban neighborhood. As designed, entry to the estate was gained from York Road along what is now Cedar Avenue. The gatehouse building of the estate, built in 1860 by Jacob Reese, still stands though the intersection of Cedar and York has been closed.[1][2]
The building has been identified as an outstanding example of Second Empire architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. (Info from Wikipedia)
