It was a very good day to take this photo, nice clouds in the sky and good wind (for the flag). Processed for panorama and HDR in LR6. Stitched from 7 vertical photos.
Panorama perspective composite of 4 images taken up close of the Manila Cathedral. Duotone tint added for effect.
"The Manila Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica, informally known as Manila Cathedral is a basilica devoted to the principal patroness of the Philippines...After enduring several damages since its construction in 1581, the cathedral remained standing for 433 years...It retained its classic Romanesque architecture while maintaining its ambiance of simplicity..."
I also read that it was closed for restoration for 1 year last February 2012. I took the reference photo I used on this last 2011 but based on what I read, and expected, most of the restoration applies on the interior. Thus, it would "seem" to look the same on the exterior :)
Drawn on facing pages of my 2015 sketchbook.

In Manila cemeteries, families honor their loved ones by repainting graves—often before Undas, the Day of the Dead. This tradition reflects care, remembrance, and respect. Bright colors or white limewash are used to clean, protect, and personalize tombs, showing the dead are not forgotten. It’s a heartfelt ritual passed down through generations.
The Manila Chinese Cemetery (華僑義山) is the second oldest cemetery in Manila after La Loma Cemetery and was designated as the resting place for the Chinese citizens who were denied burial in Catholic cemeteries during the Spanish colonial period. The cemetery was witness to many executions during World War II

Intramuros (Latin, "within the walls") is the oldest district and historic core of Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Also called the Walled City, it was the original city of Manila and was the seat of government when the Philippines was a component realm of the Spanish Empire.
The construction of Intramuros started in 1571 and covers an area of about 160 acres.
Only the Spanish elite and Mestizos (mixed race) were permitted to live inside Intramuros, where at night the city gates were locked down. The natives and Chinese were not permitted to live inside the walled fortress and were resigned to live outside the great walls of Intramuros.
During World War II, Intramuros was used by the Japanese as their garrison and prison. It was severely damaged, along with most parts of Manila, during the Allied bombings to liberate the city from Japanese occupation. The US Administration filled the moat in to prevent the onset of disease.
