BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is the first traditional Hindu Mandir of its kind in North America. It is a masterpiece of intricate design and workmanship and an absolute surprise when Houstonians discover this beautiful temple. Actually located in Stafford, Texas, but just a few miles from Houston.
Today I bring you in India!
Just kidding! I'll go to India sooner or later, but for now, this amazing temple is situated in London, more precisely in Neasden (that's why it's known as Neasden Temple).
The official name is BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir and its architecture + the attention for details is truly breathtaking.
This Mandir has also been awarded for being the largest Indian Temple of the world, outside of India.
It's made of Italian marble, Indian Ambaji marble and Bulgarian limestone. It was terminated in 1995: handcarved in India and then assembled here in London.
Truly a gem to visit!

I contacted BAPS Chicago to ask if it was possible to photograph the exterior at night. They have some restrictions on photography that must be met, and there can be no commercial use of the photos, but with that understanding, we were invited to visit BAPS Chicago with some members of our photo group, West Suburban Chicago Flickrers (WSCF) and remain after hours to photograph the exterior.
We were also invited on a tour of the interior of the Mandir, the large stone structure in the photos, and we learned a bit about Hindu history and religion. Photographing the interior is not permitted, but it is absolutely stunning. The entire structure is made of stone without any metal or other support structure. It’s an incredible place and I would encourage anyone to visit.
After dark, the Mandir is illuminated by a programmed light system. The designers of the system were also on hand to talk about the lights and demonstrate some of the effects.
The people were very welcoming and visiting BAPS Chicago was a great experience. Thank you to Mr. Harish Patel for the gracious invitation, and for teaching us all something about this fascinating place.
