I swear I did not pose this, I just noticed it and took a picture. I happened to be dressing one day, then doing DIY the next...

Week 21/52 -
*Hit "L" to make it big!*
Week 21 entered the studio again. This time I had me some models occupying the space! This shoot was a makeup design shoot for my 'soon-to-be' sister in law, Jordan. You can see here here:
Jordan is going to MUD, makeup design school in NYC. Its basically the Harvard of makeup design, only without the hoyty toyty-ness of an Ivy school! We did a 3 model shoot today to help her get a portfolio started and design some business cards. It was a long day but I think the shots turned out great.
The model here is Debby, you will know her from her wedding that she allowed me to second shoot in May of 2010.
A big thank you to my models and everyone else who helped today. It will be a few weeks but expect to see the complete collection soon!

Objective: (Jeremy speak)
Ok so for high fashion/runway style makeup with great colors, like I have here, I needed a punchy light. And a light with an awesome catch-light. Enter my DIY beauty dish. You have seen it used before here:
I made this thing out of a stainless steel cooking bowl, a pizza tray, nuts, bolts and some spray paint! Why pay something like $150 when you can make it for like $50! haha. Anyway, it creates awesome contrasty light. It gives off a sharp but forgiving light. And as you can see, the catchlights are amazing. What are catchlights you ask? See the circle in her eyes? That's a catchlight. Its basically a light that you can see reflecting off the subjects eye(s). If you look more and more into great photography you will see that the real key to creating a great portrait is how well you can make the eyes come alive. Meaning, put a catchlight in there to draw in the viewer. It also helps give the subjects eyes "life." Nothing worse than dead, black eyes.
And for the red background, I shot a gelled flash onto my grey backdrop. It was, obviously, a red gel. A gel is just a thin sheet of plastic. I used the red gel to match the eye makeup. I think it worked perfect!
