One of nightime maintenance gang receives instruction from the Foreman on what needs doing to get the loco ready for its next duties.
The night foreman dishes out his orders as to what needs to be done on the loco to a lowly worker, who in all honesty probably knows the maintenance routine better then him.
A couple of MPD operatives read through the Duty Maintenance manuals for the loco they are working on.
A revisit to my close encounter with this cooperative female Bobcat. Staying inside today from the crazy weather we've had lately. Triple digit heat and now lightning/thunder rain combo the last two days!

This guy was half way up a lighthouse touching up the paint on the exterior. The lighthouse no longer operates as an official lighthouse but it is being restored as a museum and a place to stay for the night. You can see the curtains on the window of one of the two rooms rented out during tourist season. We stayed in a cozy room at the Inn which is attached to the lighthouse. Maybe one day we will try sleeping in the actual lighthouse. ๐ It was great to see the owners were keeping up with the maintenance on this lovely spot on the most westerly part of PEI. Happy Window Wednesday!
A new week has started and the tiny little helpers of little world are back to work. Right now this brilliant victorinox pocketknife needs some maintenance from them. After the use of some oil he is checking if the can opener works smooth enough to pass the quality control :)
Thank you for visits, comments and favs!

Re-enactment.... Salop County Council. Road maintenance vehicles and gang with their Aveling and Porter traction engine providing the motive power.
These beauties are such a delight to see flying around in the garden. So it's always nice to see that they are making more.
I always worry a little about them when they are on their honeymoon. They are very easy to spot and they are a highly sought after meal for birds.
Speaking of birds, the house finches have started visiting once more and I have seen a bunch of the tiny little guys that stick to the treetops. Well, I guess you can say I have seen them :) I haven't gotten a good look at the treetop hoppers, they move so quickly and stay so high. I know they are there, I hear them and see the activity. It's time to clean up boggy creek for the little migraters.
I will be on and off a while. I have a bunch of indoor projects in the works plus outdoor maintenance and company coming soon.
I hope your weekend is spectacular. Happy snapping.
The sun sets early within the deep canyons of the Colorado River outside of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Despite it only being about 3 PM, the sun is just barely still touching the peaks of the cliffs as a trio of BNSF ES44AC's lead the Denver to Provo manifest through the canyon on UP's Glenwood Springs Subdivision. A UP maintenance of way trainset picking up scrap ties along the line has pulled into the siding here, across the river from the Grizzly Creek Rest Area, allowing the BNSF through freight to pass by as it heads west.

Just because you're in port doesn't mean you're done working.
Pillar Point, just north of Half Moon Bay, California.
Rudra Hills across the Rudramata reservoir near Bhuj ..Kutch region Gujarat.
The house/hut like structure in the foreground is called a Bhunga.
Bhungas are traditional houses unique to the Kutch region in Gujarat. The houses are circular walled with thatched roof. They are known for their structural stability in earthquakes and for being climate responsive. It also protects against sandstorms and cyclonic winds.
It is constructed using locally available materials like clay, bamboo, timber, etc. Structurally the roof is placed on two thick wooden posts placed across the circular walls. These two posts bear the weight of the roof. Wooden framed windows are set at a lower level for cross ventilation. The low hanging roofs cover the walls against direct sunlight and add to the insulation from the environment. The thatched roof is built on top of the walls resting on a spiral frame forming a cone.
The traditional bhunga requires periodic maintenance, a regular application of lipai or lime plastering to the walls and floor, and the replacement of the dried grass on the roof. The exterior walls are adorned with colourful paintings while the interiors are decorated with exquisite mud and mirror work.
Another picture of Bhunga can be seen here

Europe, Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Rotterdam, Binnenwegplein, Karel Doorman, Residential building, Ibelings van Tilburg, Liebherr crane (uncut)
The Karel Doorman (during the planning stage called the โLinea Novaโ) is a 16 story residential building. Itโs realized on top of a functionalistic Rotterdam โwederopbouwโ icon, the Ter Meulen department store (designed in 1948 by Van den Broek & Bakema).
The Karel Doorman is an element of the comprehensive Hart 010 redevelopment plan; It has a very light steel and wood structure because it rests on the foundation and the concrete skeleton of the '48 department store. It weighs only a fifth of what a traditional residential building would do. A large amount of pre-fab construction elements were used. Shown here is the glass faรงade of the right-hand tower of the building.
Replacing a glass element of the glass faรงade is no mean feat. A giant crane is necessary.

The Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse stands as a testament to Michigan's rich maritime history. Built in 1848, it ranks among the oldest lighthouses in the state and continues to serve as an active aid to navigation under the remote maintenance of the U.S. Coast Guard.
