No idea why these stones were placed in the Great Salt Lake - but they do make for a nice leading line :-)

The Kennecott Garfield Smelter Stack is 1,215 feet (370 m) high which is about the same height as the Empire State Building.

The 1883 cemetery sits at the base of the Oquirrh Mountain range; its the second oldest cemetery in the Salt Lake Valley. The cemetery overlooks the Salt Lake Valley and the Great Salt Lake.

Shopping Centre, Amsterdam

"In 1993 the imposing Neo-Gothic main post office of government architect C.H. Peters was restored and recast as a shopping centre. Two existing light courts were enlarged for the purpose and a third inner court was given a glass roof. Ruijssenaars retained the existing main entry and stairtowers, supplementing them with two escalator systems. The service entrance on Raadhuisstraat was enlarged into a second entry to the shopping centre. In all, there are 6000 m2 of luxury stores ranged along the outer walls, separated from the galleries by airy folding partitions kept clear of the ceiling."

Mit den magnetischen Bauplatten in geometrischen Grundformen lassen sich kreative Bauwerke erstellen. Ok, ich bin hier gerade noch bei einfachen Bauwerken aber dafür bunt.

With the magnetic building plates in basic geometric shapes you can build creative buildings. Ok, I'm just here with simple buildings but colorful.

I couldn't reach the Great Salt Lake this evening due to an interstate crash and a one hour backup with no alternate routes. The sky gave signs it would have color at sunset, so I was desperate to find a scene - I wound up at the cemetery.

In the year 831 was the joint christening of the Moravians. Moravian Empire in those days grew. It was a civilization and spiritually far ahead of Prague and Bohemia.

In the year 870 the empire was called "Moravia Magna" in Poland, part of Germany, Slovak Republic, Ukraine, Hungary, Romania, Austria and even included a part of Bulgaria.

Everything was destroyed by the arrival of the Czechs, gender Premysl. And so it is today! Czechs liked to destroy what we create!

An assortment of leased EMD locomotives (Santa Fe, MidSouth, Burlington Northern) pull Utah Railway's RUT311 local along the former Rio Grande Bingham Branch in West Jordan, Utah the afternoon of Oct. 25, 1997. The snowy granite peaks of 9,026 ft. Mt Olympus tower over the vanishing point. Today this right of way is occupied by UTA's "Red Line" to Daybreak in South Jordan, Utah.

My childhood favorite ruin to visit every time I return to Italia I always come back. Poseidonia (In Ancient Greek: Ποσειδωνία), was one of Magna Gracea greatest, and one of the most impressive settlement, amazingly preserve in its true original beauty. In view are two of three Doric Column Temples, they are the 1st and 2nd Temples of Hera

City remained prosperous during the early years of the Roman Empire; than called Paestum. But the city eventually was abandoned and remained unknown due to silting up of the mouth of the Silarus River, Some say due to the eruption of Vesuvius, for the est. time of abandonment and eruption fall in line. This silting eventually created a malarial infested swamp and the city remained unknown and buried under silt until the 1800s.

The magnificence of this city is the level of preservation from the city's entire defensive walls & gates of Greek origin are still fully intact to three beautiful temples, and a theater

One more bonus, it's quite off the beaten path of Tourist, That makes it even more enjoyable.

Located just west of Salt Lake City in Magna Utah by the Great Salt Lake just off of I-80 is Kennecott Copper's Garfield Smelter smokestack the tallest free standing structure in Utah and in fact west of the Mississippi. Built in 1974 it stands 1,215 feet dwarfed from a distance by the 9,000 foot Oquirrh mountains that surrounds it but driving by the structure whose hexagonal base is an impressive 177 feet wide one realizes it scale is immense. The smelter that smokestack serves is one of the most efficient in the world capturing 99.9 of the sulphur gas released so it size is overkill but it was very expensive and costly to downsize. Besides it is used as a landmark for air, land and sea travel on the Great Salt Lake.

The sweet, lazy whistles of Eastern Meadowlarks waft over summer grasslands and farms in eastern North America. The birds themselves sing from fenceposts and telephone lines or stalk through the grasses, probing the ground for insects with their long, sharp bills. On the ground, their brown-and-black dappled upperparts camouflage the birds among dirt clods and dry grasses. But up on perches, they reveal bright-yellow underparts and a striking black chevron across the chest.

As I have browsed through Mr. Harrop's amazing slide collection, there have been surprises along the way. Doug made at least three trips to the west side of the Salt Lake Valley to photograph Kennecott Copper's ore hauling operations.

KCC 406 and 402 are tied to a train of ore loads from the Bingham Canyon Mine. The GE electric duo await departure from Coppperton Yard for the ore dumpers in Magna, Utah for smelting.

Magna Plaza. Ospitato in un Palazzo neogotico, quello che era una volta la Posta Centrale, costruita nel 1899, oggi è divenuto un raffinato centro commerciale ad Amsterdam.

Rio Grande GP30s No. 3001, 3021, and 3004 pull the Midvale Tramp into Magna, Utah the morning of Dec. 26, 1992. The local's next stop will be at the Kennecott Copper yard along the foothills of the Oquirrh Mountains. The Salt Lake Valley is cloaked in a 'temperature inversion' where pollution is trapped close to the valley floor by warmer air aloft. This stagnant air has blocked from view the Wasatch Front on the east side of the valley..

Rio Grande GP40-2s No. 3105, 3120, and 3122 pull a 17-car Midvale Tramp into Magna, Utah the morning of July 26, 1996. The giant C on the mountain denotes Magna’s Cyprus High School, opened in 1918.

Naples was founded by Greek settlers and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world.

Removed by Col Hanmer Warrington on behalf of the Prince Regent in 1817 from their site near Tripoli, these ruins eventually found their way into the Southern end of Windsor Great Park next to Virginia Water.
