52 Weeks for Dogs
We just arrived at our sons house in North Carolina. Maggie sat on the porch and looked at their two golden retrievers and thinking oh no I have to play with the big boys this weekend.
Phil did not see his shadow here by our house. It’s 10°, it’s windy and it’s cloudy. So we brought him inside and Maggie shared her bandanna with him.

Maggie practicing for Ground Hog's Day tomorrow.
Yesterday it was 12* and the sun came out for maybe 1/2 hour so we went out and practiced looking for shadows. She didn't last long for her little feet got cold. Snow coming in tonight and winds. I'm sure our ground hog won't see a shadow tomorrow.

We have been giving her prednisone everyday for her lower herniated disks in her back and she's coming along OK. Alittle wobbly in her back end and we probably will have her like that till...........but doing OK with daily pills.

There's no guessing why "the dog chair" and the south facing window sill are a favorite spot on a sunny morning for Maggie and Jazz. I sit at my computer and sometimes I just can't resist a shot. In this case, my iPhone seemed to work out just fine.
This shot was taken inside our RV over the weekend. Maggie was sitting on the seat next to me looking out the window, watching for mom and Brianne to return. It was early morning and the light was perfect. I've been trying to get a shot of her that highlights the texture in her coarse fur and I think I got what I was after with this shot. I took this shot with my iPhone and when I saw the result I tried to replicate it with my Nikon, I failed because the spacing was so tight in the RV I needed an exact focal length which I didn't have (28mm). So it goes.
Single image uploaded to Photoshop with minimal processing, sometimes the light and a little luck is on your side. I found it interesting the way the camera processed the shallow DoF especially under the jaw and below the ear.
BTW: Maggie is an adopted Chihuahua mix little shit dog but we love her. She's not too fond of Rorschach the Pit Bull.

52 Weeks for Dogs.
Went up to Petoskey to the eye Dr. the other day and had to ride and see "The Piano" that was left in a tunnel down by the water front. The Petoskey community has taken great delight in a musical mystery that began about a month ago when an upright piano was placed in the tunnel connecting Bayfront Park to downtown. Dave and Maggie sat down and the only thing Dave knows to play is Chopsticks. Maggie wasn't really hip on this.

Had some people over Friday night to see our son Brian and Maggie was going all evening. Saturday she was completely exhausted.

My girlfriend walks down on Tuesdays with her granddaughter Emily and Maggie just loves having them visit.
Today is National Dog Day and a chilly morning when we woke up and Maggie is all tucked into a blanket.

Middle of the week she was sitting here and it was warm and mostly all grass. This is what we woke up to on Friday.
Maggie Dickson era una chica de Edimburgo, de clase media. Se casó a temprana edad con un pescador que le prometió una vida relativamente buena y estable, pero el hombre con el que se casó no la amaba realmente y terminó por abandonarla.
En aquella época estaba muy mal visto que un hombre abandonara a su mujer y es por eso por lo que Maggie decidió marcharse de Edimburgo, pues entonces el divorcio volaba por su ausencia y cuando una pareja se casaba, era para tooooda la vida, "hasta que la muerte os separe".
Así pues, en 1723 Maggie marchó en busca de una nueva vida, a un lugar donde nadie la conociera y ese lugar fue Kelso, un pequeño pueblecito al sur de Edimburgo. Allí consiguió un trabajo en una posada donde el posadero le ofreció a cambio de limpiar y trabajar para él, alojamiento y alimentos.
Allí conoció al hijo del posadero, un apuesto chico con el cual tuvo un romance, en secreto claro, para no perder su trabajo y en consecuencia el alojamiento si llegaba a oídos del posadero, pero con tan mala suerte, digámoslo así, que quedó embarazada. Pasaron unas semanas después de otras y fueron muchas las peripecias que Maggie tuvo que hacer para ocultar su estado, pero lo consiguió, aunque no tuvo que esperar demasiado ya que el bebé nació prematuro y para su desgracia, muerto.
A pesar de todo, era lo mejor que le podía pasar ya que en su "nueva vida" Maggie era una chica soltera, ¿qué pensaría la gente? así pues, se decidió a deshacerse del bebé, sin dar a conocer ni su existencia ni mucho menos su muerte y marchó hacía el río Tweed con la intención de hacerlo desaparecer entre sus aguas, pero una vez allí se vio incapaz de soltar a su hijo y rompió a llorar desolada por todas las desgracias que le estaban ocurriendo. De repente unas voces alertaron a Maggie, un hombre la había visto y se acercaba hacia ella, Maggie dejó el bebé a la orilla del río y salió corriendo, pero no llegó muy lejos cuando fue capturada.
En aquella época, podía considerarse delito cualquier cosa, ¿por qué pensáis que sería juzgada? adulterio? asesinato tal vez? pues no, Maggie Dickson fue condenada a ser ahorcada por ocultación de embarazo, ya que permanecer en este estado y ocultarlo estaba penado con la horca.
El 2 de septiembre de 1724 en Grassmarket (Edimburgo) se procedió a ejecutar la sentencia de Maggie. Como era la costumbre, a la condenada le concedieron su última voluntad, una copita de whisky y minutos más tarde fue ahorcada a la vista de todo el pueblo de Edimburgo. Después de certificar su muerte, el cuerpo fue trasladado para ser sepultado, tras él como si de una procesión se tratara, se dirigía el pueblo para ver la sepultura y así dar por concluido el acto, pero de camino al cementerio empezaron a escucharse gritos y golpes que venían del ataúd, la gente estaba desconcertada ¿sería posible? Efectivamente! tras abrir el ataúd de madera, allí estaba Maggie más que viva.
En cuanto se dieron cuenta de la realidad, el pueblo no daba más de si, eufóricos volvieron a Grassmarket, verían dos ejecuciones el mismo día! El whisky y la cerveza corría por doquier, las risas y los comentarios eran ensordecedores, la pobre Maggie, desgraciada como ninguno se disponía a ser ahorcada por segunda vez cuando de repente, una voz rompió el silencio de los atentos espectadores, y un hombre pronunció estas palabras "por voluntad divina esta mujer no ha muerto al ser sentenciada, no es justo volver a juzgarla por un delito por el cual ya ha sido juzgada".
Maggie Dickson había sido condenada a la horca y no a muerte, así que, puesto que ya había sido ahorcada su delito había sido pagado y ahora Maggie era inocente y como se presuponía que tras el ahorcamiento llegaba la muerte, el "hasta que la muerte os separe" también se había dado por hecho, por lo tanto Maggie además de ser inocente ahora también volvía a ser libre para rehacer su vida si así lo deseaba.
Con una copita de más en el cuerpo y casi sin poder creérselo Maggie bajó de la tarima y dio gracias a Dios por haberle perdonado la vida. A partir de ese día Maggie fue muy conocida por todos y le otorgaron el nombre de Half Hangit Maggie (Maggie la medio colgada).
Maggie Dickson volvió a Edimburgo y muchos cuentan que se casó con el hombre que la salvó de la muerte, compró una casa en Grassmarket con vistas al escenario de su ejecución y vivió allí durante 40 años más.
Dicen que Maggie sobrevivió porque conocía al cordelero que suministraba las sogas y la ruptura precoz de la cuerda le permitió sobrevivir, otros, que en el último momento sedujo al verdugo para que realizara un nudo flojo. No importa cual fue la razón de su supervivencia, la cuestión es que su historia se recuerda hoy y es homenajeada a través del pub Maggie Dickson, ubicado justo en la casa donde vivió el resto de sus días.

Maggie, our new neighbors Labradoodle. I made this for Donnerstagsmonochrom. Happy Thursday Monochrome. Thank You In Advance, I appreciate your interest and I THANK YOU FOR YOUR VISIT! I’m going to be very busy for a month or two. Packing up and cleaning this cluttered and dirty crib. Guests are coming. So my time will be limited. Of course being addicted to my iPhone, I won’t abandon making photos to share. I’m sure everyone realizes that photographer’s are egotistical, eccentric, and self centered etc. etc… And most of us are loving individual’s with great humor, generosity, loyalty, respect, and kindness. When not holding a camera 📱! 😉😂
This photo of Maggie was taken back in February and it's amazing to look back and see how far she has come.
Back in Feb this was the closest I could get to Maggie and this is with a zoom lens.
Today, although she is still very timid she will stand at an arms length from me.
I think in a few more months she will allow me to pat her.
