cherrystreetink: Stephens was one of my Grandmother's favorite department stores! I still have some of her clothing with the labels on it! Oh the stories of shopping at its finest I have heard happened inside of this beautiful building. It's a shame it now sits lifeless.

The 16th Street Baptist Church in Alabama is pretty much ground zero for the civil rights movement in Alabama...Built in 1873, it was originally called The First Colored Baptist Church of Birmingham...Bombed in 1963 by three Ku Klux Klansmen, killing 4 young girls, the first of the trio was not convicted of murder until 1977 followed by the other two in 2001 & 2002 respectively...PATHETIC!!!...kitty corner from the church lies Kelly Ingram Park where Dr. Martin Luther King, a frequent speaker at the church, organized the infamous Birmingham campaign to cripple the city with marches to city hall in 1963...
In 2006, the church was officially designated a National Historic Landmark...
Washington, 1857. A somewhat forgotten, overgrown tomb hidden back in the seldom-seen portion of Rose Hill Cemetery.
