Luminant Energy uses an 11-mile railroad to shuttle locally mined lignite to their Oak Grove Power Plant. I spotted three of these SD50s painted for Luminant, plus a GATX leasing SD40-2. Here a 40-car train is backing into the coal loading/shop area near Kosse, TX.
More recent pictures I have seen has them currently running trains with 2 ex EMD SD70ACe's demos still in their demonstrator paint scheme. I'm not sure of the demise of these SD50s.

The trains operate in a push-pull fashion with a home-made cab car on the other end. Here an empty set is being shoved by an SD50 back to the mine for another load of lignite coal. At the Oak Grove plant, Luminant Railroad operates two sets of 45-car unit trains 12 to 15 times per day.
Since we are having gray, rainy, wet and cold days and weeks, I am longing for the lush and luminant green of spring. This photo was taken last May during a tour of private gardens.
I am wondering if a crop to make it shorter would be better? What do you think?
When I was there they operated two large drag line shovels removing the overburden. Then a front end loader dug into the exposed lignite coal and loaded it into dump trucks as seen here.

El Dolmen de Sol de riu és una construcció funerària que pertany a el període neolític o principi de l'època dels metalls, és el típic megàlit fet de grans pedres verticals.
Es tracta d'una càmera dolménica poligonal de 3 metres de longitud per 2,30 metres d'ample, i una altura d'entre 1,70 i 1,85, que presenta un vestíbul amb dos muntants i una obertura superior, l'entrada es troba a l' nord.
El ortòstat de tancament es troba decorat a l'interior de la cambra per un gravat rupestre que presenta un soliforme.
El dolmen ha estat totalment excavat oferint materials propis d'un sepulcre calcolico: una destral polida, una gran fletxa de peduncle i aletes, restes d'un vas de ceràmica llisa i restes de dos individus.
Va ser una de les meves primeres circunpolares, muntada amb Startrails, una il·luminació senzilla d'un flash a l'interior amb un gel càlid 1 passada amb llanterna freda a l'exterior i la lluna il·luminant una mica tot.

Se trata de una cámara dolménica poligonal de 3 metros de longitud por 2,30 metros de ancho, y una altura de entre 1,70 y 1,85, que presenta un vestíbulo con dos montantes y una abertura superior, la entrada se encuentra al norte.
El ortostato de cierre se encuentra decorado en el interior de la cámara por un grabado rupestre que presenta un soliforme.
El dolmen ha sido totalmente excavado ofreciendo materiales propios de un sepulcro calcolico: un hacha pulida, una gran flecha de pedúnculo y aletas, restos de un vaso de cerámica lisa y restos de dos individuos.
Fue una de mis primeras circunpolares,montada con Startrails,una iluminación sencilla de un flash en el interior con un gel calido una pasada con linterna fria al exterior y la luna iluminando un poco todo.

The Dolmen de Sol de riu is a funerary construction that belongs to the Neolithic period or beginning of the metal era, it is the typical megalith made of large vertical stones.
It is a polygonal dolmenic chamber 3 meters long by 2.30 meters wide, and a height between 1.70 and 1.85, which has a lobby with two uprights and an upper opening, the entrance is at north.
The closing orthostat is decorated inside the chamber by a rock engraving that features a soliform.
The dolmen has been fully excavated offering materials of a calcolic tomb: a polished ax, a large peduncle arrow and fins, remains of a smooth ceramic vessel and remains of two individuals.
It was one of my first circumpolars, mounted with Startrails, a simple illumination of a flash inside with a warm gel one pass with a cold lantern outside and the moon illuminating everything a little.

Era un momento mágico con esas nubes que dejan pasar los rayos del sol a través de sus aberturas e iluminando a los surferos y a los fotógrafos que estabamos en el lugar.

It was a magical moment with those clouds that let the sun's rays pass through their openings and illuminated the surfers and the photographers who were in the place.
The grandeur of the view in this backlight cannot be captured in a photograph, but to give you an idea.

Some fairly fascinating conditions during this sunrise in 2008 as a small lenticular cloud formed over Mt. Hood and was flanked by mammatus clouds. The small sliver of light to my back/right draped the mountain and White River valley in some awesome light. One of the most memorable sunrises I’ve been lucky to witness!

Here’s a photo of Mica Lake with neighbors for context (and contrast) taken from the Paintbrush Divide in the Teton Mountain Range. It was hard to ignore the milky green, luminant tone of the lake as we began our 13-mile descent. I’m looking west from the Divide with the Tetons to my left and Yellowstone to the right.
As amazing as this landscape is with all its details, the reality is that it’s just something you walk past on the way to something else.
There’s a lot of loose rock in this photo. When we camped, I listened to the rocks falling throughout the night. I assumed that animals trigger the rocks to fall, but not always. This is a very young mountain range with the Teton fault still very active, continuing to push these mountains further into the sky. I live relatively close to all of this, and from my home, I’ve experienced a few quakes responsible for pushing these mountains upward, while dropping the valleys further in elevation. It’s quite the rumble.
In the lower right quadrant of the photo, you can see a waterfall leading to a hiking trail that takes you to Lake Solitude, located just out of frame to the right.

Amb la llum de la posta de sol encara il·luminant algunes zones de les nevades muntanyes de la zona, aquesta parella de 447 recorren el tram de doble via entre Puigcerdà i LaTour de Carol, amb un servei cap a Hospitalet. Enviar des d'aquí ànims al maquinista ferit ahir en topar amb un arbre a Figaró.
Con la luz de la puesta de sol aún iluminando algunas zonas de las nevadas montañas de la zona, esta pareja de 447 recorren el tramo de vía doble entre Puigcerdà y LaTour de Carol, con un servicio hacia Hospitalet. Enviar desde aquí animos al maquinista herido ayer en colisionar con un árbol en Figaró.

Imatge publicada a la pàgina 141 del llibre "El riu Tenes i el seu paisatge" (ISBN: 978-84-09-50068-0, Dipòsit legal: B-8121-2023).
D'igual manera que la primera etapa de la Remuntada del Tenes, la segona també ens va regalar una impressionant glaçada. Al poc de començar la ruta, els primers raigs de sol començaven a anar traient el cap escolant-se entre els arbres del petit bosquet de ribera del torrent de can Sabater poc abans que aquest cedeixi les seves aigües al Tenes, il·luminant la glaçada.

As I am researching for an upcoming trip with my friend Matt, I thought I should share one from the last trip we had together.

Sunset glows make all shimmer in a palette of marvelous luminant colours.
