This is Memorial Weekend. The actual day is Monday but we celebrate it for 3 days with lots of backyard Bar B Que's and days at the lake. However, I'll be working. I'm doing a photo shoot Saturday evening.

This is my youngest daughter. We went to the Watermelon festival in Luling, Texas this year. As hard as it is to believe, I couldn't find anyone selling Watermelon ..;) We didn't stay long. My daughter couldn't take the heat. She lives about 4 hours south of me where it gets even hotter but she say's she never goes outside

The siphon at Luling, Louisiana goes from Mississippi River into the marsh and aids flood relief and also replenishes the marsh. It is not flooding now but some water does come through and the fish also come through and the pelicans feed on them. Most of these are adults but there are a few juveniles (the ones with the pink bills).
I seldom use this lens as much of the time I use my Nikon 500mm lens but this Nikon 80 - 400 did well with this scene even at f4.8. The farthest bird was only about 50' away.

I didn't shoot much between Maryland and New Orleans on my way to California. I had purchased my 10 stop ND filter just before leaving and unboxed it for the first time off the side of a road somewhere near Dandridge, Tennessee. I had to stop in DC before leaving and Scotch and I got a very late start that evening. I wanted Scotch to get used to the long days in the car early in the trip so we could slow down and explore on the 2nd leg and this meant little shooting.
After arriving in New Orleans and getting to sleep again in a real bed and eat real food, I set out to explore along the Mississippi River and give the 10 stop filter a try. Some turned out well mostly by accident but the majority were underexposed or not as crisp as I wanted. I never looked up how to use it and figured I'd just adjust like I would with my ND4, ND6, and ND8. It didn't quite work out that well but the really poor weather starting in Texas and lasting until Nevada would've made the 10 stop a windy disaster so perhaps it's good it mostly stayed in the bag.
I found the Hale Boggs Bridge in Luling Louisiana a bit before sundown and spent the last half hour or so shooting scenes in both long exposure and regular shutter speeds. This bridge crosses the Mississippi River in St James Parish and connects Luling (to my back) with Destrehan (facing), two towns I'd previously never heard of. A few of the LEs turned out pretty well but most were very underexposed. There really wasn't enough light left to have used it effectively anyway since it seemed like the ambient light was fading by the second and sort of cancelled out the open bulb. I was fortunate to have taken some of the sky and bridge with no filter attached though and this was one of the first I shot. The sky was the highlight obviously, but I was really drawn visually to the rusting contours of this weathered steel cable-stayed bridge.

This is kind of a tricky spot for me. I've actually been here a few times now, but this was the first time everything (mostly) worked out. With the way the bridge is situated, I just have a bit of a difficult time finding composition that I like. There are also usually a couple barges docked right along side of it, which don't help things. But, this being such a beautiful bridge, I guess it was worth a few trips.

Was wandering around New Orleans on the first full day I was there and ended up over a bridge and first in Gretna, then Luling. Both places i'd never heard of. got to play around a bit with the 10 stop ND filter again before it got too dark.

San Isidro de Lules, or, Lules, as the town is colloquially known, is a settlement in Tucumán Province in northern Argentina, and the seat of the department (county) of the same name.
Lules was founded by the parish priest of Famaillá, Dr. Zoilo Domínguez, on November 20, 1851, on the site of a former Jesuit reduction as an agricultural community, and named it in honor of the patron saint of farmers, Saint Isidore the Laborer (San Isidro), as well as for the area's indigenous people, the Lules tribe. Though Domínguez bequeathed the land to his five sons upon his death in 1865, he also intended to create a functioning community, and lots around the town square were auctioned to Lules Indians and other area residents. Domínguez also had a school and a Roman Catholic parish built, and the town was officially recognized as such by the province in 1887.
The town and surrounding fields became an important center of blueberry and strawberry production, and during the 20th century, Lules became home to numerous food processing plants, including makers of fresh and concentrated juices, as well as paper and textile mills, among others.
