here's what the finished product looked like. it was 108 degrees outside, so unfortunately it had to stay inside on my friend's dark, heavy looking countertops. =0(

Wobbly dolls that were sent to a colleague and me and when she left she didn't take hers, so I kept it. The shell leis are truly from Hawaii.

My friend had a 30th bday party which was a Hawaiian Luau theme. My gift to her was cookies of course! LOL
Here's the cake I worked on today. It's for a luau themed birthday party. The invitation had a pink flamingo with a green ribbon on it's head, so I wanted to include that on the cake.
It's a 4" strawberry cake and an 8" chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. The decorations are fondant and gumpaste.
Can't wait to see what the client thinks when they pick it up this afternoon!

Some good friend of our host a huge Luau party every summer. The party includes about 80 guests, a DJ, drinks from their very own slushy machine and luau decorations galore inside and out! Other guests are asked to bring a side dish to share, but no dessert, and then (for the past couple years) I make the all of the desserts! I really enjoy it, and of course all the ohhs and ahhs aren't too bad for my ego! =)

I remember the Luau Garden here in Sacramento back in the 70s. It was one of my favorite all you can eat Chinese/Hawaiian restaurants in town. This unrelated one was in Fresno. I love Tiki themed restaurants and bars.

1/10 - Desafio dos Clássicos
Raramente uso esmaltes nesse tom (lilás / rosa acinzentado bem clarinho - quase um nude), mas qdo vi na perfumaria achei tão fofinho que não resisti e capturei. A qualidade dele é ótima, adorei! Tenho simpatizado com a marca, ainda mais agora que são hipoalergênicos.
Notas:
1. relevem as cutículas maltratadinhas =P (dei uma relaxada pq estou passando uns dias na praia)
2. reparem nos coqueiros refletidos nas unhas s2 (no indicador dá pra ver melhor)
3. no dedo mínimo tem uma gotinha d'água, pq começou a chover na hora em que fui tirar a foto

I think this is the thrid set of Luau cookies I've made this summer. =)
These are just going to be out on a tray as dessert (along with cupcakes by me), so I made them more "grab and go" sized, versus larger "favor" sized cookies. The little pineapples are about 2 1/2 inches tall. I made about 80 cookies total.
These are for a Luau party some good friends of our host every year. This will be our sixth year attending. It's always a ton of fun. The hosts go all out with decorations, frozen drinks, DJ... all set in their lush and beautiful backyard.

Luau in Hawaii is a must!
It was such a great experience, the food was fantastic from the steak, sweet potato, taro, mai tai's and of course, fresh roast pig dug right out of a pit. The weather was perfect right by the beach and as the sun set, the entertainment began with hours of dancing under the stars and lots of hip gyration. I can't believe they do this every night!!
Made it to Kauai today which is very different from Maui. The vegetation is lush and overgrown and the town itself is more quaint. Gonna go explore the Jurassic Park Waterfall one of these days but for now catching up with emails and enjoying Hulu while I can in America :P
I absolutely LOVED this cake!!! I was really happy with how it came out!! It definitely was inspired by cakelava's cakes, actually most of my cakes this week were! They are probably gonna kick me off their site any day now, but they are just so gorgeous!!! Delivering this cake in the pouring rain was not fun though!!
