The American lotus flowers in the lake have started to bloom. I think this was one was the first to bloom as it is the largest; there are plenty of buds for a spectacular show at the end of July.
I remember that in the '70s my mother had a lamp like this in the dining room of the house. They still sell them online in the vintage section.

“Lotus flowers lead harrowing journeys. Their seeds sprout in murky swamp water, thick with dirt and debris and snarls of roots. For a lotus to bloom, she must forge her way through this terrible darkness, avoid being eaten by fish and insects, and keep pressing onward, innately knowing, or at least hoping, that there is sunlight somewhere above the water's surface, if she can only summon the strength to get there. And when she does, she emerges unscathed by her journey and blooms triumphantly.”

The lotus flower is one of the most ancient and deepest symbols of our planet. The lotus flower grows in muddy water and rises above the surface to bloom with remarkable beauty. ... Untouched by the impurity, lotus symbolizes the purity of heart and mind. The lotus flower represents long life, health, honor and good luck.

A pretty American Lotus (Nelumbo lutea) flower, nonnative and very invasive at Wildwood Lake in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Quite hard to control.
Thank you for visiting!

Lotus berthelotii, also known as the 'Parrot's Beak' due to the shape of the bright red flower which presents itself from the fine, trailing silver foliage. One of my favorites ;-))
