One of the most scenic railway lines of the world is the Transiranian railway that connects ports of the Caspean Sea with the Persian Gulf running through the mountain ranges of Zagros and Elburs.

On the southern half of the line a freight train is enroute from Sepid Dasht to Dorud and crosses one of the unnumbered stone trestles.

Iran was the first visited place of a mainly rail-based Trans-Asia trip. More from this trip in my blog at middle2fareast.wordpress.com/

From mid-March to April 2019, widespread flash flooding affected large parts of Iran, most severely in Golestan, Fars, Khuzestan, Lorestan, and other provinces. ,Unfortunately 76 people died , and about 750 historic and ancient sites between 10-75% has been damaged .

In north of the city resides the remains of an ancient huge bridge (Pol Dokhtar : means the Maiden Bridge or bridge of the daughter), which, along with other ancient bridges in this area, has been submitted as a potential UNESCO World Heritage site - Lorestan Ostan (Province) - Iran

This bridge was built in Sassanid period (224 to 651 AD)

The name of the bridge implies it was dedicated to the Goddess Anāhitā , Anāhid , Anāhit , Nāhid (Anahita is the Zoroastrian goddess of water and fertility)

What Is It About A Solitary Tree That Captures One's Gaze and Imagination?

No matter where you live, you have seen one. And I'm betting when you did, you allowed your gaze to linger for awhile. If you are a camera bug, you may even have pulled over while driving down some road, and shot a picture or two. Sometimes it is a majestic, old oak tree in the middle of a farmer's field...surrounded by acres of plowed field. Why did they leave just that one tree? Surely there must have been many others at some time.

A forest is lush. Dense. But while a forest has its own charms, it can sometimes seem impenetrable. Uninviting, even. A lone tree holds a completely different kind of allure. It is somehow mysterious. It's almost magnetic, especially when the cleared land around it is expansive. You ask yourself how that one tree, and only that tree, managed to escape the axe and survive. You sometimes may even feel compelled to walk across the field to look at it from a closer perspective. Stand in its shade. It provokes contemplation. The trees in a stand of woods lose their individuality and become almost indistinguishable from one another, at least until fall. But a lonesome tree? It calls out to you. "Look at me. I'm still here!"

Sasanian Empire / 224 BC - 651 AD

Sasanian civilization one of the best architectures in all of the world. They were successful in making hundreds palace, bridge, road, temple and fire temple in throughout of persian empire between 224 BC - 651 AD. They were known to the construction of very large bridges.

This photo is remainder famous bridge history name is "Kashkan" build about 1400 years ago over the Kashkan and Seimareh rivers between road Khoramabad city capital of Lorestan province and Kūhdasht town in the northwest of Iran and a part of important way for sasanian kings in western area.

I want to tell you a short story..

A story from Iran..

It’s a historical story..

Story of empire of the Sun..

Sasanian empire..

1300 years ago..

There was a guy..

The name of “Pardiyaas” ..

He was a Soldier Iran..

Held the bridge alone..

Against a whole of alien army..

And what “Pardiyaas” said was..,

“How can a man die better then facing fearful odds..

For the land of his Fathers..

and..

The temple of his Gods.”

Nature's first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf's a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

— Robert Frost

On this very special day of celebration, the women, and even some men, yes, men, cover their faces with a veil. Some say it is because on this day they make wishes about job, health etc, and want to stay anonymous... All the women were ok for the pics, do not beleive it is an extremist clothig sign!

In daily life you will never see iranian women with this very nice veil.

Only in the south, some women wear a kind of mask.

Angels are like diamonds. They can't be made, you have to find them and i found the last angel in a historical old city in western Iran on a holy day in 2015.!!

Along with ..Stanley Kubrick :

“How could we possibly appreciate the Mona Lisa if Leonardo had written at the bottom of the canvas: ‘The lady is smiling because she is hiding a secret from her lover.’ This would shackle the viewer to reality, ..and i don’t want this to happen for "my shots".”

It is not yet 5am, and already, the most devout have come to take a mud bath in the pools to celebrate Ashura. It is cold, not more than 10 degrees, as the town is located at 1,200m high and it is wintertime.

After the bath, shivering men gather in a circle around a huge wood fire to dry off for long minutes. On the pavement, an old man covered with dried cracked mud looks like a statue in the pale flashing lights of the storefronts. He cries heavily while invoking Hussein’s name. He struggles to walk despite his cane. Passers-by stop to embrace and console him. Some cannot hold back their tears and sincerely share his sorrow.

How the old mountains drip with sunset,

And the brake of dun!

How the hemlocks are tipped in tinsel

By the wizard sun!

How the old steeples hand the scarlet,

Till the ball is full, --

Have I the lip of the flamingo

That I dare to tell?

Then, how the fire ebbs like billows,

Touching all the grass

With a departing, sapphire feature,

As if a duchess pass!

How a small dusk crawls on the village

Till the houses blot;

And the odd flambeaux no men carry

Glimmer on the spot!

Now it is night in nest and kennel,

And where was the wood,

Just a dome of abyss is nodding

Into solitude! --

These are the visions baffled Guido;

Titian never told;

Domenichino dropped the pencil,

Powerless to unfold.

Ashura is famous around the world for the men who whip themselves, with lot of blood everywhere, as it happens every year in Kerbala... in Iran, many villages have special celebrations. In Khorramabad , the shia people mourn the death of Iman Hussein, and on the early morning of Ashura day, they enter a mud pool mixed with rose water. The mud is a symbol to honorate the death of someone you loved a lot. Some kids and some girls also cover with mud. Iran.Very few tourists come to see those ceremonies (i met just one, french), as foreigners do not undersand the meaning of Ashura and many i met thought it was dangerous to attend it... This is a time of sharingand mourning , so all the foreigners are welcomed. The iranian governement tries to promote Asura with huge billboards in english, but it does not work at all!
