The terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountain top, between 600 m to 800 m above sea level. A coiling terrace line that starts from the mountain foot up to the mountain top divides the mountain into layers of water in spring, layers of green rice shoots in summer, layers of rice in fall, and layers of frost in winter. The terraced fields were mostly built about 650 years ago.
Longji (Dragon's Backbone) Terraced Rice Fields received their name because the rice terraces resemble a dragon's scales, while the summit of the mountain range looks like the backbone of the dragon.
In early June, water is pumped over the rice paddies and young plants are transferred to the main terraces.
Afternoon in soft backlight at Longsheng Rice Terraces, also called the Longji Rice Terraces.
They are located in Longsheng County, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) from Guilin, Guangxi, China.
We were happy to see this landscape just before the harvest, which was postponed for a few days due to a festival.

Longji Ancient Zhuang Village Rice Terraces
The result of the incredible work of so many peasants generations!
Luigi Balzarini wrote this interesting comment :
" Rice terraces of Ping'an village at dawn. In the village of Ping'an there are 3 viewpoints. Point 2, showed in this photo, is called "the moon and the seven stars". The moon would be a terrace where the water remains all year round and shines under the sun, the seven stars are the hills around. The spectacle of the yellow-green terraces that happen sinuously on the sides of the mountain is extraordinary, even if there are no farmers at work now."

"Rizières en terrasse près de Guilin. "
Le résultat l'incroyable travail de tant de générations de paysans!
Longji Terraced Fields are also called Longsheng Terraced Fields, are located north of Guilin City (located in southern China's Guangxi Autonomous Region) with a driving time of two hours from the city center.
Probably built 650 years ago, Longji Terraced Fields are now famous for its large scale of rice paddies on the mountains.
“Be glad today. Tomorrow may bring tears. Be brave today. The darkest night will pass. And golden rays will usher in the dawn.”

The Longji rice terraces : one of the very reasons why I wanted to go back in China, and why I want to go once more (to see them full of water) ! The place is a wonderful photographic spot for sure, and I regret that I hadn't planed my visit better (I did not thought it would be so remote from Guilin) : we stayed only a few hours because we had a train to catch on the evening … which was not a good idea. However, it was really nice to walk along the terraces and villages.
One of the pictures I uploaded yesterday was a crop of this one, I finally decided to change it and to post the whole panorama (7 shots).
