Ingólfshöfði is a nature reserve that's home to thousands of nesting sea-birds, like puffins and great skuas. This birdwatching tour was taken with the group Local Guide, which hauls people across a massive black sand beach in a hay cart to reach the cliffs where the birds live.

Taken in May 2006. We stopped walking up the mountain for the night. Our hiking guides take the time to prepare a couple chickens for dinner in the local/regional cooking style over a pit fire (with the feathers on).
As part of the cooking, the feathers are burnt off, instead of defeathering before cooking.
Since this is a national park, very few have the privilege to use wood in the park.
I think that the indigenous peoples are allowed sparingly to use the wood in the
small cooking fires.
Location: Mount Pulag Summit area, Luzon, Philippines

It's a very cool local info service! It also allows users to submit their Flickr photos for inclusing in the custom guides that they build - a very strong mashup feature.
Part of the vast expanse of black sand over which we drove was under water.
