Nors Lake in the distance.
Hanstholm Nature Reserve is the most extensive area of dune health in Denmark. The landscape is a mosaic of large plains and massive dune formations.
Next to a large number of shallow lakes, often drying out in summer, there is a ring of deeper lakes further east-wards. These are karst lakes with chalk bottoms. A large one is Nors lLake.
The violent waters of the whirlpool rapids flow into the eddy basin before entering the whirlpool.
A major change took place here about 7,000 years ago when water volume was low. The connection between Lake Huron and Lake Erie was cut off and the upper Great lLakes drained through the Ottawa River and St. Lawrence Valley. Only the flow from Lake Erie went over Niagara Falls, and because of this a narrow gorge and shallow riverbed were formed. Today, the flow of water coming from the wider Upper Great Gorge is channeled into the narrow section, thus creating the turbulent whirlpool rapids.
Info from the Whirlpool Scenic Overlook Trail sign in Niagara Falls State Park, NY.
Notice the cable car full of people crossing just about at the whirlpool. The water was so clean and beautiful.
The weather has taken a turn for the worst over night in worcestershire and many part of the UK. This change has brought with it high winds and lots of heavy showers and general wetness. The wetness is reminiscent of the conditions experienced the other week at Rydal Water. - Classic Lone Tree
Taken back in September maybe the last shot of the tree for me until spring as the sunsets go farther and farther South. I will be back at shooting this tree around the spring equinox. I believe its dead so I will be nailing it while its still there.

Another photo from the tour in Ireland (2023). This small house is located on a llake in the west of the island. The weather was relatively bad. I chose a long exposure because it makes the clouds look more interesting. Other photos from this tour: flic.kr/s/aHBqjB96Sc
One of the many cool scenes along the INRD here as the daily train to Bloomington rolls over the classic bridge along Llake Lemon with a pair of sd90's leading. Don't use this image on any media without my permission.

I spent two weeks in late August in the Eastern High Sierras camping at June Lake. We had clear blue skies for all but two evenings. I saw some clouds developing one afternoon and drove to Mono lLake and headed down the narrow dirt road to the Lee Vining Tufa parking area, scratching my truck paint job on the bushes crowding the road. After a 30 minute tough bushwhack to the shore, I was rewarded with some nice light and great cloudy skies. I even had a short rainbow and sunrays coming through the broken clouds. The only thing missing was color at sunset. There was just pale yellow. Heading back to my truck through the old tufa and high thick brush in the dark was not fun.
At least here at this tufa area, I was the only photographer for this sunset.
Every time I visit the Lee Vining Tufa and fight my way from the parking area to the shore I swear I'll never do it again, but after a year or so I forget and do it again. I think that is the definition of insanity--doing the same thing over an over and each time expecting a different outcome. Visiting the Lee Vining Tufa is not for the faint of heart and is best done by a boat on the lake. Next time I am bringing my chain saw and will cut a path to the shore. ;>)
