Ultralight full frame follow focus rig. Used this on my first film project this past week, shooting segments of the Alpacka Stowaway Dry Suit Review at backpackinglight.com (cf. www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/alpacka...). First thoughts:
1. Battery life is fine, but not in winter conditions. I changed batteries for every 10 minutes of video. Ambient temps were about 15 deg F. Playing with options to wrap the battery area with hand warmer packs. What a pain.
2. I shot all day with intermittent heavy snow and the camera got wet and stayed wet. No issues. I kept the lens protected with a B&W clear mc filter. Will probably end up doing a liquipel-style treatment on it at some point. Have done this with an RX100 with great results for foul weather shooting.
3. I've dropped the camera twice from about 3 feet. The first time it hit concrete, and I'm not sure where. Not even a scratch. The second time I slipped on wet river rocks and the tripod & camera came crashing down onto a rock. Broke and dented the filter, rest of the camera was fine. I've been lucky.
With Jaybird Bluebud X in the market, offering twice the battery life (8h) and superior water resistance (Liquipel), the Freedom Sprint may not look as attractive as it used to a year ago. But if you just need a no-frill wireless earphones and are willing to charge it after every 2-3 workout sessions, the Freedom Sprint is still a great alternative.
