This is how beautiful Evia looked like before the big fire. In 2011 I spent my holiday there and it was a very special and magical experience. The people were very nice and welcoming, the area was very beautiful and green. I remember how the olive trees grew on the beach, just a few meters apart from the sea.

It hurts me very much, seeing how everything is going up in smoke and how the people are suffering.

Lets pray for all the victims of these catastrophe!

South of Limni & Katounia at the beautiful, very natural Island Euboea (Evia) you can find this almos endless beach.

A nice view over three areas of water at the south-western part of the Peloponnese. First you have Voidokilia beach, a very beautiful, sandy beach with crystal clear water. There behind you see the Gialova Lagoon, natural habitat for a lot of birds and there behind you can see the Ormos Navarinou, the natural port area at Pylos. The town of Pylos is visible too, at the upper right part of the picture!.

Olive tree at the beach on Evia (Euboea). I wonder if these olives get more salty?

Happy 4th of July to USAians. The fog is already covering San Francisco, so I won't be seeing any fireworks tonight. Anyway...

The photo was taken in Limni, Evia, Greece, from a hillside chapel easily reached by driving up. Night version coming next.

Lake Vegoritida (Greek: Λίμνη Βεγορίτιδα, Limni Vegoritida), also known in the past as Lake Ostrovo (Greek: Λίμνη Οστρόβου, Limni Ostrovou), is a large natural lake in western Macedonia, northern Greece. It is situated 6 km northeast of Amyntaio and 18 km west of Edessa, at 540 m elevation. The Voras Mountains lie to the north. It belongs party to the Florina Prefecture and partly to the Pella Prefecture.

An update on the pier, since this photo was taken early 2024, there was a very, very heavy storm in late November with gale force 9 or so. Most timbers were shuttered by the waves. Sadly there are no announced plans to effect repairs.

Rhodes, near the shore of "Limni Fragmatos Gadoura".

Despite its name (rhodius), this is an Anatolian sp, with western populations on Crete, Rhodes and Samos.

For identification, I used the key and description in a revision of Palaearctic Bembecinus by Schmid-Egger:

Thank you for your faves and comments, they are greatly appreciated!

Trichonida Lake (Greek: Λίμνη Τριχωνίδα - Limni Trichonida, Ancient Greek: Λίμην Τριχωνίς - limen Trichonis) is the largest natural lake in Greece. It is situated in the eastern part of Aetolia-Acarnania, southeast of the city of Agrinio and northwest of Nafpaktos. It covers an area of 98.6 square kilometres (38.1 sq mi) with a maximum length of 19 kilometres (12 mi) and maximum depth of 58 metres (190 ft).

Not quiet balanced, the little bird is spoiling the symmetry.

Lake Pamvotida or Pamvotis (Greek: Λίμνη Παμβώτιδα/Παμβώτις), commonly also Lake of Ioannina (Greek: Λίμνη των Ιωαννίνων, Limni ton Ioanninon) is the largest lake of Epirus, located in the central part of the Ioannina regional unit in northern Greece. The regional capital Ioannina to the west and the town of Perama to the north are urban settlements fringing the lake while the remaining of its periphery is composed of farmland. The lake features small fishing ports and a boating port. There is a regular boat service to the Ioannina Island. The Greek National Road 6 surrounds the northern half of the lake.

Late evening view over Limni, Evia, Greece. Happy weekend to all.

LIMNI - ΛΙΜΝΗ

Limni, on the island of Evia, is a small port, beach and tourist resort, which is beautiful the whole year round. It is located 80 km NW of Chalkida and about 150 km from Athens.

The island of Evia lies along the Eastern coast of Central Greece, and is accessible to the mainland via two bridges, an old wooden bridge and a contemporary suspension bridge. There are also frequent ferries to several parts of the island. It is 175 km long and is the second largest island in Greece, and the third largest in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Corfu is known to have one of the best beaches in Greece. That is, after Santorini, of course.
