A career in "silence" and "black and white"
Only in the video I could see the color of her eyes and hair, in old age, and I saw her after this elaboration of portrait "pop", otherwise I could have given her red hair and light blue eyes

Lillian Dambrinio, an eleven-year-old shrimp picker in Peerless Oyster Co. She is an American and lives here. Says picking makes her hands sore. note the condition of her shoes. The acid in the shrimp eats the shoes off your feet, She earns a dollar a day when shrimp are big. Goes to school, but not when factory is busy. Bay St. Louis, Mississippi around the 1800s early 1900s.
Lillian is lithe and extremely beautiful with flawless skin of porcelain. She is thoughtful but not very talkative.
When I asked her where she came from she silently pointed to a place way beyond. I fully understood and we sat for an hour in companiable silence.

An old jpeg from our first really big (and sometimes harrowing) x-country adventure in the Olympics back in late July, 2005 ... the Cameron Ridge traverse. We started at Obstruction Point, spent the first night at Gladys Lake in upper Grand Valley, climbed over Low Pass (just out of the picture on the top right), dropped steeply on scree into the Lillian River drainage, and then navigated our way up to Lake Lillian for the night. Next day we scrambled over talus up to the shoulder of McCartney Peak (as seen here looking down at Lillian), traversed high along the ridge past beautiful lakes and tarns thru fields of wildflowers and across steep slopes to Cameron Pass. We went on to upper Lost Basin for 2 nights, then back out and over Cameron pass, down along Cameron river to the junction with Grand Pass, up and over to Gladys Lake again for the night, then out to the car. What a blast!

Lillian has gotten to know me and follows me around for pats and brushing. She lives at Belmont Audubon Habitat, where I tend to their seven goats on two days per week.
Lillian, a homeless died monday and her funeral will be tomorrow. I talked to her sister, who told me the cause of her too early death and said : Now she is up in the sky watching her streets !

Lillian is the softest (and widest) of the seven goats at Belmont Audubon Habitat. She's very friendly, and appreciates gentle scratching on her sides and rump.
We ascended the ridge above Lake Lillian on the scramble trail normally taken to access the "back door" to Rampart Lakes. Instead of turning left to travel to the lakes, we turned right and followed a goat path along the top of the ridge. The goats don't do a great job clearing a trail passable for humans but we managed. The ridge was narrow and bristled with trees and brush but the views were spectacular.
