We were up in the Houston area for a wedding shower and decided to check out the famed bolivar peninsula. We got up early and headed out to high island. This sunrise backlit shot of a great egret was one of the first shots I took after setting up.
Like the Mandarin Duck and very similar looking the Wood Duck has also escaped into certain areas in the UK but far less well-established. A mostly silent duck and native to North America where they live in wooded swamps and will nest in holes in trees, these ducks are one of the species of duck that are equipped with strong claws that help to grip bark and perch on branches.

This cartoon-like balancing "Sax on legs" is playing 'Trinkle Tinkle' (song by Thelonious Monk) and it is a funny design by Rikki Donachie.
The Sax On Legs is made from 3 parts, the sax itself is folded from half of A4 paper and the arms and legs from a fourth of A4 paper. It's not completely closed.

Looking like the Maestro conducting an orchestra, this Blue-winged Teal actually was facing off with a Coot that was harassing him.
Many birds spread their wings in this manner to dry them. However, I have observed this behavior in many bird species as a show of dominance, when facing a competitor, immediately after a mating, when confronting a foe, or when feeling threatened.

...the snow has melted away. Hard to believe but temperatures went up 30 C inside a week and turned this winter wonderland into green. Obernbeck, Löhne, Ostwestfalen, Germany
June 3rd, 1am. We are on the road, looking around for potentially good spots for some more astrophotos. In essence we are "chasing" the stars. While I was driving and the girls had their own small talk with several issues to resolve as usual, I spotted a small abandoned house on the side of the road, next to the sea. Literally next to the water with small waves breaking just in front of it. Quick stop and out to see what we got. Five minutes later we are all out there taking night photos of Hydra, the island across that beach! Seen and been there on this island several times in the past, but this time it was different. We were looking at the island and saw it like we had never seen it before! What can I say... We live in a tough world yet a magical one as well!!!
