The theatre originally opened in 1926 as the New Palace Theatre with Roger Wolfe Kahn and his Orchestra topping the bill. It was built at a cost of $12 million as part of the Eitel Block Project. In 1984 the theatre was renamed the Bismarck Theatre and turned into a rock venue. In 1999, it was renovated and renamed the Cadillac Palace Theatre after Cadillac purchased naming rights to the venue. It currently has maximum capacity of 2,344 people. Since this reopening it has been home to many pre-broadway hits. The theatre is currently operated by Broadway In Chicago which has allowed for more Broadway hits to tour through Chicago causing a great economic impact on the city of Chicago.

The Rapp Brothers, George and Cornelius, were responsible for the design of the Cadillac Palace Theatre. Their inspiration for the look and feel of the Palace Theatre came from the Fountainebleau and the Palace of Versailles, both found in France. The interior includes huge decorative mirrors, breche violet and white marble. The walls inside are adorned with gold leafing and wood decorations, as well as a series of complex arches and detailed brass ornamentation

This is a view of the lights from yesterday's photos. On closer examination, I now believe that these 'lights' are an art installation and not the terminals permanent lights. My Flicker friend Trish Mayo discovered that this installation is titled "Migration" and the artist is Danny Saathoff. See her comment below. Thanks much Trish.

"Step into the timeless craftsman charm of The Lodge at Torrey Pines. Overlooking the world-renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course with views of the Pacific Ocean, the AAA Five Diamond rated resort exceeds expectations with world-class dining, a full-service spa and unprecedented service.

"Inspired by the creative genius of architects Greene & Greene, the Lodge at Torrey Pines uniquely embodies the spirit of the Arts and Crafts movement. The guest rooms of the existing hotel were demolished and replaced by new guest wings. Public areas were extensively renovated and expanded adding a new ballroom and a full service spa and fitness center. KSDS was responsible for the design of all guest rooms, suites and public areas. In an effort to properly pay homage to this distinctive period in architectural history, extensive research was undertaken, resulting in a high level of expertise in the Arts and Crafts Movement.

"The lobby celebrates the work of Charles and Henry Greene in every detail, from the finely crafted millwork and to the meticulously replicated light fixtures and furniture. The custom stained glass entry doors were created by the same art glass studio that partnered with Greene & Greene on many of their historic homes."

"AN EXCEPTIONAL FINE DINING EXPERIENCE

The Lodge’s signature restaurant, A.R. Valentien, highlights regional San Diego cuisine served in an elegant, timbered indoor-outdoor dining room overlooking the 18th hole of Torrey Pines Golf Course. Executive Chef Kelli Crosson sources only the best local provisions, and the menu changes frequently based on seasonal fare available. The restaurant takes its name from a talented early 20th-century California artist whose works are exhibited throughout the restaurant."""

Christ Church, Hope, BC, built by the Royal Engineers during gold rush days and consecrated in 1861.

The Los Angeles Public Library was designed by Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue and opened in 1926. It's in an Egyptian Revival style with sphinxes, snakes, mosaics, and of course the pyramid on top of the building. There is a huge globe chandelier in the dome under the pyramid. The Central Library was heavily damaged in 1986 due to an arson fire. It was restored and expanded by Norman Pfeiffer, and reopened to the public in 1993.

The Los Angeles Public Library is on the National Register #70000136 and probably should also be a National Historic Landmark.
