This photograph was taken from the board walk of Clifford Pier looking towards Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort. Some of the landmarks in the photograph included (from left) Singapore Flyer, ArtScience Museum and Marina Bay Sands.
A water taxi with tourists on board was making a left turn. The long exposure captured the light trials in front of the landmarks. The colourful landmarks provided attractive background to nightscape.
Has the nights are getting long and the rush hour begins. I head to a motorway (highway) bridge to create light trails.
And live in the light, to spread the light, so that you can be the light!
All these long-exposure Light Trial captures were taken, from over the Great Charles Street Queensway Bridge, which is a narrow footway bridge crossing over from between Church St to Ludgate Hill St of the Inner Ring Road around Birmingham City Centre.
Which I used my 8mm Fisheye lens to capture the wide expanse of this Queensway Inner Ring Road.
Many thanks for your kind comments and compliments to all here, my dear good flicker friends !!!
U.S. Route 64 runs from the Four Corners area, where Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico come together. Through New Mexico the highway passes through Shiprock in San Juan County. After taking a full moon shot at Shiprock (Shiprock), we decided to take photo of car light trails along the highway.
The US 64 was indeed a busy route. Even at night, there were so many big trucks travelling on the highway. Every time when the big trucks passing through, my friend and I got excited, waving to the drivers and cheering each other, as if we went back to the childhood happiest moment.
The Pamban Bridge is a railway bridge on the Palk Strait which connects the town of Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India. Its ranked as one of the most dangerous railway tracks on earth.Indian Railways have been known for achieving engineering feats. The rail bridge is for the most part, a conventional bridge resting on concrete piers, but has a double leaf bascule section midway, which can be raised to let ships and barges pass through. It is the second longest sea bridge in India after the 2.3-km Bandra-Worli sea link on Mumbai's western coast. It is an engineering marvel that evokes awe.Few can forget a train journey on the Pamban bridge,With 143 piers, spanning 2 km between the Rameswaram island to the mainland.

Polaroid Week 2023 SS - Day 6 #1
On my recent trip to Rome, after having dinner in the Testaccio neighbourhood, we walked to the nearest metro station which was
Piramide and then noticed, this fantastic gate lit up.
I didn't know what it was at the time, but wanted to take a light trial in front of this, something a little less obvious in Rome, than the Colosseum.

This is a follow up image to a similar posting of a Loch Leven sunset a few weeks ago. I was trying to create some very simply composed images with difficult light scenarios to test my new Canon 16-35 f4 L.
The Canon is much sharper than the Sigma which is great for catching detail but it is less forgiving of movement and diffraction and whilst the Canon is not terrible for flaring I am comparing it to one of the best lenses out there for resisting internal reflections and so it just doesn’t match up. I had to work very hard to reduce the flare in the foreground of this image to make it reasonable and even now I’m not that happy.
The aim of this shot is to get full strength sunlight into the centre of the lens (I know it is off-centre but that was artistic license) with a strong reflection from the water. My previous test was a low light trial whereas this is a too much light trial. I must admit I like the play of the light on the water and way it slightly curves around the foreground rock just helps to break the shape a little. The rock is a little soft at the edges but I think that was me (or possibly the water) causing movement and affecting the exposure.
I’ve now reached the consensus that the comparison between my new lens and my old Sigma is just not really like for like. They have very different strengths and weaknesses and I suppose what I should focus on is getting the best out of the one currently fitted to my camera. That and start saving up for the Canon 11-24 L. :-)
Polaroid Week 2021 - Spring/Summer - Day 2 #1
Tower Bridge, 2021, a sense of normality as I stood in the middle of traffic island taking another interpretation of my favourite light trial scene.
This was my first out and about Polaroid of 2021 and I needed something familiar, to get my mojo back.

A long exposure shot of this historical street in Kyoto, Japan.
This place is truly steeped in tradition!
Had to tradeoff some DOF to shorten the exposure as I had a few earlier attempts ruined by passing cars’ light trials.
This was one of my earlier long exposure attempts, with Nikon D800E and AF-S 24-70mm f2.8 G. So yeah, DSLRs are still more than good enough even today especially for stills and shot made on tripod, they also represent excellent values in today’s overpriced mirrorless market.
Fundamental changes when I added a mirrorless kit many years ago;
1) Totally forgo the 24-70 f2.8 standard zoom which I found overly bulky and heavy during my DSLR days.
2) FE 55mm f1.8 ZA became a nice proxy for the bulky standard zoom.
3) Partly because of (1) above, I took to shooting with an 85mm f1.4 which allowed me to create really special images that’s just not possible with a standard f2.8 zoom.
My main mirrorless 3 lens kit thus became;
a) UWA: FE 16-35mm f2.8 GM
b) Standard Prime: FE 55mm f1.8 ZA and
c) Fast short tele Prime: FE 85mm f1.4 GM.
Might eventually replace the FE 55mm f1.8 ZA with the new FE 50mm f1.4 GM although I’m in no hurry since I’m quite happy with the color fidelity and compactness of the ZA.
Having held out against the FE 50mm f1.2 GM in favor of a potential smaller and lighter f1.4 alternative, I’m pleasantly surprised that Sony is bringing out its own f1.4 version just as Sigma is launching theirs.

I love this spot and being so near to it to capture Battersea Power Station from the embankment, I couldn't resist having a wander up before calling it a night. I have used the blending technique that I use for my super long exposures and this one is made up of 4 shots of between 3 to 4 minutes each, and then taking one of the shots where the cranes are not moving to get a clean skyline. I know it's not original but I like it. Hope you do too.
Long-exposure photography or time-exposure photography involves using a long-duration shutter speed to sharply capture the stationary elements of images while blurring, smearing, or obscuring the moving elements. The paths of moving light sources become clearly visible.
When a scene includes both stationary and moving subjects (for example, a fixed street and moving cars or a camera within a car showing a fixed dashboard and moving scenery), a slow shutter speed can cause interesting effects, such as light trails.
Long exposures are easiest to accomplish in low-light conditions, but can be done in brighter light using neutral density filters or specially designed cameras.

第一次嘗試拍車軌. 楊梅裕成南路的小公園, 是個荒廢的公園, 好像沒啥人氣, 只有我在那邊拍攝, 可惜草有點高.
This is my first time to capture the light trail. Thank you for your visit !
The results of my first experience with light painting and the one benefit of winter coming, darker nights.
This is something that I have wanted to try for a while and tried it out with the PhotoSoc. I hope you enjoy
The power station is no longer in use as it was decommissioned early this year. I was lucky enough to drive a 130 mile journey to capture this before its demise.

This has got to be my favourite spot in Paris for shooting. You certainly couldn't get away with being in a location like this in the UK!!!
I discovered it when I was over there in February last year and have gone back to it each time I've visited Paris on Business. In February I've learned that it is only mediocre in the dark but in September it is amazing. I was hoping for a lovely sunset but annoyingly that came the next night when I was the other side of the river in La Defense itself. Still, I'm happy with what I got on Monday night. Hope you agree.
S Curve. U Valley. Had great fun with a group of photographers capturing these light trails. Although we experimented for about hour there was a relatively short window to get a good balanced exposure for the ambient light and sufficient contrast in the light trials. We also had to contend with cars parking and turning round in the lay-by in the bottom of the frame (the cheek of it :-)) and waiting for different combination of cars to drive by. This was a 30 second exposure capturing a single car moving through the scene.

Venice, Italy
I've posted quite a few images from our Venice holiday but haven't found one for my album cover. The obvious shot I thought was Santa Maria della Salute and the Grand Canal as an iconic scene but scrolling through my hard drive I realised every one I'd taken was either light trials or early morning traffic on the canal. This just happens to be the very first frame taken during my early morning at the Accademia bridge. I like the shadows cast by the mooring posts and its traffic free so for the time being this is my album cover.
