In a lab at the Microbial Sciences Building, senior scientist Bob Kerby holds two test tubes containing a pure strain of bacterium from a human fecal sample at UW-Madison, Friday, Jan. 12, 2018. Kerby, who works in the Rey Lab, uses an anaerobic chamber to place the bacterium and a growth medium into the sealed test tubes for incubation. At left is a freshly prepared sample. At right is one that has been incubated for 24 hours.
