Gold paint, that is. Adding some finishing touches (gold paint) to the hand carved, hand cut, hand pressed wooden prints that we have been preparing over the past few days. To find out what they are for, and to see more progress photos of how it was done, please click here.
This is also our new blog. It has a feed, what ever that means, so you can stay in touch on the go.
I was fortunate to find an almost complete set of Parsons decorators free for the taking. Manufactured by Barnhart Brothers & Spindler in Chicago, they are the perfect accent for the typeface Parsons, designed by intrepid printer and private printing author Will Ransom in 1917. I also have a run of Parsons from 6pt to 36pt. It was often used for the title cards in silent movies.
These are all tools that I borrowed from my school. They are all used when working with a letterpress. I recently learned the whole process and I'm excited to letterpress my own business cards :)
I'm planning on doing some more product photography like this in order to work on my styling abilities. Earlier today I got a pocket watch that used to belong to my grandpa, and I think it'll be perfect for another one of these photos!
This photo was inspired by Bryan John Appleby's cd cover. He's a really talented local Seattle artist, check out his songs... I wish I could find a good youtube video of his song Glory, 'cause I really like that one (especially the end.)
This is a new line we are developing... we call it "meadowettes". We are not sold on the upper left one's color... and we plan to add a 6th design in a plum color. Thoughts?

Lovely find on holiday in Cornwall - spending way too much time filling it and colour co-ordinating instead of making jewellery for the Saltaire Arts Trail!
Promotional poster for Kultbox Records. Hand typeset (couldn't find an "I") and letterpressed with black/red ink on heavyweight rives paper.
15.5×32 inch letterpress / woodcut combo. The piece is bigger than the Vandercook I was working on, so I had to do it in two runs… the whole process involved way more math than any art kid should have to deal with…
Also, I have editions for sale! Contact me if you are interested.
