……I thought we’d escape to the coast again this evening - wouldn’t it be great to do just that eh! This particular stretch of coast is on the Lizard - Dollar Cove. So named when a couple of tonnes of Silver Dollars were lost overboard here at Gunwalloe in 1780. Well it’s Friday again, stay cosy & locked down to stay safe and to keep EVERYONE else safe too! A VERY BIG THANK YOU to ALL the key workers who are carrying on to benefit the rest of us - we applaud you all. Alan;-)👏👏👏👏👏

Records were made to be broken. On 10/12/25, at the Florida Keys Hawkwatch, an incredible number of raptors were tallied migrating south at 4,216. The star of the show was not the Peregrine Falcon, which at this site being the Peregrine Falcon migration capital of the world, (with a total count at 248 for the day, and previous day total at 387-still the highest count than any other site in the US) but the Sharp-shinned Hawk. With a total number counted at 1,812 for the DAY, is a FKH record of 25 years of counting at the site. Incredible! The Broad-winged Hawks also had good numbers at 1,150. The Northern Harriers and Cooper’s Hawks had second highest tallies for the site at 174 & 205, respectively.
Was amazing to be witness to this spectacle and watching the counters in action. A fun day!

You never know what you can be witness to visiting the FKH during peak migration. There is always something different to behold.
