On a father and son tour through the technical museum world of Estonia. My son was quite excited he could get in a real submarine for the first time. In the seaplane hangar museum of Tallinn, the main item is the "Lembit". A submarine once build by the Vickers Armstrong dockyards in GB for the Estonian naval forces. It was on duty 1937-1940, later in the soviet era from 1940 untill 1979. It was given back by the Soviets to Estonia in 1994. It participated at the evacuation of Tallin at the end of WW II. The nickname was "The immortal submarine".
P.S.: The red dressed lady does not belong to the exhibition! :-)
This hundred years old building, made of concrete is now a maritime museum, located in the Tallinn aeroplane harbour in a building originally constructed as a hangar for seaplanes in the area of Peter the Great's Naval Fortress. The hall has an area of 8000 m².

EML Lembit is one of two Kalev class mine-laying submarines built for the Republic of Estonia and served in Estonian and Soviet Navy. She was launched in 1936 at Vickers and Armstrongs Ltd. in Great Britain. Until she was hauled out 21 May 2011, Lembit was the oldest submarine still afloat in the world.

Vintage submarine exhibit at the 'Seaplane Harbour Museum' in Tallinn, Estonia
Dominating the exhibit is the Lembit, a submarine built in 1936 by the English company Vickers and Armstrongs for the Estonian Navy. When Estonia fell to the Soviet Union in 1940 it was incorporated into the Red Banner Baltic Fleet of the Soviet Navy and saw action against the Axis powers. It managed to sink two ships and damage another.
Climb aboard and you’ll see an almost perfectly preserved submarine that was the cutting edge of technology of its time. You can visit the control room, periscope, radio room, torpedo tubes and cramped crewmen’s bunks all pretty much as they were. It didn’t feel too cramped to me until I read that it housed a crew of 32.

The oldest settlement in Cēsis is the hill fort on Riekstu hill, a fortified wooden castle built by a tribe known as the Vends. The 18m high mound with its partly-preserved fortification system can still be seen in the Castle Park. This settlement was located near major trade routes from west to east and dominated the regional countryside.German crusaders known as the Livonian Order began construction of a castle Wenden near the hill fort in 1209. When the castle was enlarged and fortified, it served as the residence for the Order's Master. In 1577 the garrison destroyed the castle to prevent it from falling into the control of Ivan the Terrible. In 1598 it was incorporated into the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Wenden Voivodeship was created. In 1620 Wenden was conquered by Sweden. It was rebuilt afterwards, but destroyed again in 1703 during the Great Northern War by the Russian army and left in a ruined state. From the end of the 16th century, the premises of the Order's castle were adapted to the requirements of the Cēsis castle estate. When in 1777 the Cēsis castle estate was obtained by Count Sievers, he had his new residence house built on the site of the eastern block of the castle, joining its end wall with the fortification tower. Since 1949, the Cēsis History Museum has been located in the New Castle on the Cēsis Castle estate. The front yard of the New Castle is enclosed by a granary and a stable-coach house, which now houses the Exhibition Hall of the Museum. Beside the granary there is the oldest brewery in Latvia, Cēsu alus darītava, which was built in 1878 during the latter years of Count Sievers' residency, but its origins date back to the period of the Livonian Order.

Bishop Albert of Riga founded the military order of the Livonian Brothers of the Sword (Latin: Fratres militiæ Christi Livoniae, German: Schwertbrüderorden) in 1202; Pope Innocent III sanctioned the establishment in 1204. The membership of the order comprised German "warrior monks". Alternative names of the order include the Christ Knights, Sword Brethren, and The Militia of Christ of Livonia.
Following their defeat by Samogitians in the Battle of Schaulen (Saule) in 1236, the surviving Brothers merged into the Teutonic Order as an autonomous branch and became known as the Livonian Order
History
Swordbrothers Albert, bishop of Riga (or Prince-Bishop of Livonia), founded the Brotherhood to aid the Bishopric of Riga in the conversion of the pagan Curonians, Livonians, Semigallians, and Latgalians living on the shores of the Gulf of Riga. From its foundation the undisciplined Order tended to ignore its supposed vassalage to the bishops. In 1218 Albert asked King Valdemar II of Denmark for assistance, but Valdemar instead arranged a deal with the Brotherhood and conquered the north of Estonia for Denmark.
The Brotherhood had its headquarters at Fellin (Viljandi) in present-day Estonia, where the walls of the Master's castle still stand. Other strongholds included Wenden (Cēsis), Segewold (Sigulda) and Ascheraden (Aizkraukle). The commanders of Fellin, Goldingen (Kuldīga), Marienburg (Alūksne), Reval (Tallinn), and the bailiff of Weißenstein (Paide) belonged to the five-member entourage of the Order's Master.
Pope Gregory IX asked the Brothers to defend Finland from the Novgorodian attacks in his letter of November 24, 1232; however, no known information regarding the knights' possible activities in Finland has survived. (Sweden eventually took over Finland after the Second Swedish Crusade in 1249.)
In the Battle of Schaulen (Saule) in 1236 the Lithuanians and Semigallians decimated the Order. This disaster led the surviving Brothers to become incorporated into the Order of Teutonic Knights in the following year, and from that point on they became known as the Livonian Order. They continued, however, to function in all respects (rule, clothing and policy) as an autonomous branch of the Teutonic Order, headed by their own Master (himself de jure subject to the Teutonic Order's Grand Master).

Lembit Ulfsak (1947-2017) was an Estonian actor, born Lembit Yukhanovitch Ulfsak, who had a rich career in Soviet and Russian cinema and TV. He was known for e.g. Legenda o Tile (1977), Keskea rõõmud (1987), Doktor Stockmann (1989) and Tangerines (2013).
Lembit Ulfsak was born on July 4, 1947 in Koeru. In 1970 he graduated from the acting faculty of the Tallinn Conservatory. In 1971 he joined the Tallinn Youth Theatre, which he left in 1978 for the Tallinn Viktor Kingissepp Drama Theatre. From 1969 he acted in film while from 1985 to 1994 he was an actor in Tallinnfilm Studios. In 1976, Lembit Ulfsak had a major breakthrough as the mischievous Till Ulenspiegel in the film The Legend of Till by Alexander Alov and Vladimir Naumov. As a enre actor, he excelled in eccentric roles as Robertson Ay in Mary Poppins, goodbye by Leonid Kvinikhidze (1983). In 1984 he appeared as Hans Christian Andersen in Krzysztof Gradowski's Akademia pana Kleksa, adapted from a series of children's books by Jan Brzechwa that recount the adventures of Pan Kleks (Mr. Tachedencre), the director of a magic academy. Also unforgettable is his Jacques Paganel in Stanislav Govoroukhine's In Search of Captain Grant, adapted from the novel Captain Grant's Children by Jules Verne in 1985.
After the breakup of the Soviet Union, Russian directors called on him to play Estonians. His most notable roles from this period are the police chief Neumann in the TV series Issayev (2009) by Sergei Ursuliak and Dr. Teppe in the film The End of a Beautiful Era (2015) by Stanislav Govorukhin. In 2013, he was part of the cast of Zaza Urushadze's Tangerines. In 2015, the film was nominated for the Academy Awards and Golden Globes in the category of best foreign film. Lembit Ulfsak died in Tallinn of cancer on March 22, 2017 and was buried in the Tallinn Wooded Cemetery next to his parents.
